This page lists the known versions of Keen 6 and any differences discovered between the versions.
Demo versions
Special Demo Version (v1.0)
* Distributed in North America by FormGen
* Only a limited number of levels available
* Keen starts with the grappling hook already in his inventory
* There are signs that say "DEMO" with Yorps sitting on them near the blocked off areas
* Different text-screen shown after quitting the game
* E + N + D cheat restarts the level
* Parts of the map that will never be seen by the player have been removed
* When ending game, ordering instructions are listed for FormGen.

Promotional Release Version (v1.0)
* Distributed in the UK by Precision Software Alternatives
* Seems like a modified version of the Demo (above)
* Yorp signs changed to read "????" instead of "DEMO"
* E + N + D cheat does nothing
* When ending game, ordering instructions are listed for Precision Software Applications.

Full versions
Version 1.0
* CGA and EGA version available (TODO: Was the CGA version the same as this one in EGA?)
* A+2+Enter not required to enable cheats (this key combo does nothing)
* Pressing a key during the intro jumps straight to the main menu (skipping the title screen)
* Text-mode intro screen lists CGA, EGA and VGA as three separate options
* End sequence has light-grey background and dark-grey text

Version 1.4
* A+2+Enter required to enable cheats
* Pressing a key during the intro jumps to the title screen first, before the main menu
* Added "Fix jerky motion" menu item under the Configure/Options menu
* Moved "SVGA Compatibility" option to the end of the menu (in Configure/Options)
* Added support for Gravis Gamepad
* Text-mode intro screen lists CGA and combined "EGA/VGA" option
* Modified Molly's portrait used in the end sequence
* End sequence has dark-red background and yellow text; flashing "next page" arrow still has gray background.
* Slightly less available memory reported than v1.0
* B+A+T cheat added, giving you 99 shots, all the keys and extra keen
* Better soundcard detection
* F10+P cheat no longer triggers the 1-UP sound and neither freezes the game, only pauses
* Fixed a bug where gems left in your inventory when ending a game, would pop up in your inventory when you started a new game

Version 1.5
* Slightly more available memory reported than v1.4 (+1kB), probably due to code optimizations
* In the end sequence, the flashing "next page" arrow now has a red background to be consistent with the rest of the screens.
* Fixed a bug where Molly would "dance" around in her cage (bug introduced in 1.4)
* The F10+P cheat now once again freezes the game

If you compare the directory listing of the files in the Special Demo Version with the Promotional Release Version, you'll find that the files in the PRV have a timestamp of 17-01-92, all file sizes are identical, keen6.doc is missing, and keen6.exe is slightly larger and has a timestamp of 01-01-80. My first thought when I saw the zeroed out timestamp was that some unscrupulous person had hex edited keen6.exe to replace the exit screen ordering information for "Precision Software Applications" in the UK. However, the ordering information in Wolfenstein 3D lists Precision Software Application as the UK distributor of Wolf3D, so PSA appears to be the legitimate distributor for this game in the UK.

Essentially, the SDV is a North American release distributed by FormGen in retail stores like Radio Shack, with direct ordering information for North American customers, and the PRV is a UK version from Precision Software Applications for UK customers. I've edited the descriptions in an attempt to convey that these are regional releases. DOSGuy 04:42, 9 August 2008 (GMT)

Unknown if this version is a beta or an actual release,<br>
there's nothing that claims this version being 1.0 either.
* Has different preview shots for both Keen 2 and Keen 3 (showing beta stuff, see the two pictures below)
* Vorticon feet slightly different (only some frames)
* Has some grammatical errors in the help text and some wrong information
* F8 does not crash the game, but plays 1-UP sound (most likely unintentional)
* Using god mode on the world map doesn't allow walking through solid tiles

Overview
Border Village is the first level in Keen 4. It consists of a small village of four stone houses, in a clearing in the woods. It is only inhabited by Poison Slugs and Bounders, although Licks are also present in hard mode.

An interesting landmark is a sizeable cave below the village, accesible through two of the houses. The cave contains some kind of shrine with a large statue of a Slug with a crown. This could indicate that the village and shrine were built by Slugs, but there is no indication as to how. It's also interesting to note that there are no sleeping-Slugs in this level, which can be found in Slug Village.

Walkthrough
This is a very straightforward level. You start at the far right of the map. Run left over the small hill. You can pogo up to get the goodies and the drops. You will encounter two buildings. The first one will have four bottles inside. Grab these bottles, and then go back out. Look out for the slug here.

The second building has two stunners and some points. In addition, there is a pole that goes down. You can either descend this pole, or go back out. Since there is more down the pole, it is recommended that you go that way.

Run down the passage until you reach the chamber with the giant slug shrine. There are two acid pools you must jump over. It is a little tricky, but not too tough.

After leaping over both vats and collecting the points, keep running left down the corridor. You will find another pole; go up it. This takes you to a second building, this one with more points inside.

Go out the door. There will be more slugs here, and, if playing in hard mode, some licks. You can go left to the exit now, but there is a bit more to the right. In particular, there is a house with a single stunner inside.

Hidden exit
Down in the slug shrine, there is a secret room that can be accessed by careful pogoing. If you stand on the side left-hand side of the left-hand acid pool, you can pogo up and to the left and Keen's head will disappear inside a hidden passage. If you switch off the pogo stick in time, Keen will grab onto the ledge and pull himself up. (You may find it easier to use the Jump Cheat first to find precisely where you are supposed to pogo to.) When you pull yourself up, you will be inside the wall. You now can pogo up onto a floating platform. If you spring off of that, there are 7 extra lives. Once you grab those, go to your right until you find a door marked "EXIT" in SGA.
