[[Image:Dopefish_face.png|left]]

Probably the most well-known creature in all of the Commander Keen universe, the [[Dopefish]] has spawned a cult following and made numerous appearances in many other games. For a full list of guest appearances, visit the Dopefish's homepage - http://www.dopefish.com

The only level in Commander Keen that the Dopefish appears in is the [[Well of Wishes]], the underwater level in [[Keen 4]].

The in-game helptext states that the Dopefish won't mess with a [[Sprite]], however it is possible to lure a Dopefish into contact with a Sprite - unfortunately, nothing happens - the Sprite will fire at Keen, but its shots are harmless to the Dopefish.

The official help text says of the Dopefish:

{{Box|The second-dumbest creature in the universe, this creature's thought patterns go "swim swim hungry, swim swim hungry." They'll eat anything alive and moving near them, though they prefer heroes.}}

This is a reference to Douglas Adams' ''Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy'' which describes the dumbest creature in the universe as the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. The name 'Dopefish' is of course a combination of 'Dope' and 'Fish' and has nothing to do with drugs.

=== Appearance in Keen GBC ===

<center>[[Image:Dopefish.gif]]</center>

The Dopefish appears in [[Keen GBC]] as decoration on some tiles and as a real enemy. The tile art was directly taken over from the [[Keen 4]] sprite. The new enemy version looks a lot like the firs one and can be found in [[Blooglet Lake]] on [Fribbulus Xax]]. In contradiction to Keen 4 te Dopefish is now much smaller and more fragile, being easily defeatable when they are out of water. They spend their time jumping in and out of the water, hoping to snap up [[Keen]].

[[Image:Mort_helmet.png|frame|Mortimer's helmet, as seen in Keen 5 -- but not spotted by Keen himself!]]

==Mortimer's plotting==
At first Keen had no idea that Mortimer was plotting something -- not until he discovered the Vorticons actually weren't hostile but were brain-controlled by Mortimer McMire. By destroying the [[Mangling Machine]] Keen believed he had got rid of Mortimer. Later, he was listening to his [[Photachyon Transceiver]] and picked up a distorted signal; he managed to hear about something [[Shikadi]] planning to destroy the Galaxy, and quickly set off to [[Gnosticus IV]] to learn more about them. Gannalech was also mentioned in the message, but seemingly Keen paid not much attention to the name. Later he stops the Shikadi's plan and finds a message on [[Omegamatic]], [[The Mortimer Letter]]. In the letter it's revealed that Keen didn't in fact destroy Mortimer, Mangling Machine was only operated by an [[Android Dummy|android dummy]], and that Mortimer was behind the whole Shikadi plot (and 'Gannalech' is what the Shikadi called him) it was to deceive Keen from Mortimer's one true goal: he's going to blow up the whole Universe, not only Galaxy -- however, Keen, for reasons unknown, decided to decipher the message later, and as it seems, he forgot all about it. Later he has to save his baby-sitter from the [[Bloog|bloogs]], and he gets to hear that Mortimer is alive and well, and planning to destroy the entire Universe. Getting to know that Keen is shocked, as he had thought Mortimer had died in the Mangling Machine (so it really seems he hadn't read the letter). Not until this point Keen realizes that Mortimer is still alive and he won't rest until the Universe is toast.

Keen was to confront Mortimer in the final battle for the Universe, but that never happened as [[The Universe Is Toast]] was iced. However, it still may happen one day.

==Personality==
Mortimer believes himself to be the highest intelligence ever and has decided that nothing else deserves to live. His ultimate goal is to destroy everything because everything is so stupid. It's not known how he's going to survive if he destroys the whole Universe, or is he even wanting to survive or just end it all and himself along with it.

== Appearances ==
* [[Keen 2]] - referred to
* [[Keen 3]] - as the end boss
* [[Keen 5]] - hinted to with a [[SGA]] letter and his helmet
Vorticon VI is the place where [[Keen 3]] takes place. The planet is presumably named after their largest group of inhabitants the [[Vorticons]]. It's not vica versa because otherwise the Vorticons should have been called the Vorticon VI's or Vorticons VI. The 'VI' indicates that there must be at least five other planets called Vorticon but nothing is known about them. It's likely that this is the sixth planet Vorticons lived one due to their habit to colonize other planets like Mars. In that case we might expect a large Vorticon community close to our home in the future.
Although all levels are there and it's possible to complete the game, the creator said he didn't consider it as finished.
== GBC episode? ==

Hey Malvenineous, you forgot (I hope) to create a GBC Keen section. Will you still be making one? [[User:Djaser|Djaser]] 19:30, 26 January 2007 (EST)

:I'm not sure - given that Tom Hall wasn't fond of the GBC edition and it's not true "classic Keen" I personally won't be creating a section for it, so it depends on what the rest of the community wants. I might post a poll about it on the PCKF, to see what everyone thinks. Thanks for the idea. -- [[User:Malvineous|Malvineous]] 19:36, 26 January 2007 (EST)

::But it still is Keen and part of it's history. Even the old Keen encyclopaedia had GBC Keen included. I don't see the point in giving all the Keen mods an own article but totally ignoring an official game. [[User:Djaser|Djaser]] 20:01, 26 January 2007 (EST)

:::It depends on your definition of "official" I guess. Tom Hall was the designer behind Keen, he was the one that came up with all the ideas that are being documented in this wiki, so you could always say the GBC version was unofficial from Tom's point of view. At any rate I've [http://p072.ezboard.com/fpubliccommanderkeenforumfrm8.showMessage?topicID=306.topic posted a poll about this on the PCKF] and whatever the outcome is of that will be the "policy" this wiki will adopt. You'll have to persuade the community over there if you want GBC included in the wiki! -- [[User:Malvineous|Malvineous]] 20:07, 26 January 2007 (EST)
== Vortiking and Vortipress ==

I think that the [[Vortiking]] and [[Vortipress]] articles should be removed due to being unimportant and having conjectural names. [[User:Allstories]]

:That's a fair point, but they are characters that feature in the storyline (and someone writing a fanfiction may include those characters since they featured in the official games, even if they were only minor.) Maybe the pages should be more prominantly flagged as having unofficial names? -- [[User:Malvineous|Malvineous]] 11:28, 28 January 2007 (EST)

:: I second Malv's opinion. Just leave a small piece of text saying "NOTE: These names cannot be proved to be official because of this and that".--[[User:Shadow Master|Shadow Master]] 11:40, 28 January 2007 (EST)

:::Yeah, I think those should be kept, I think this wiki should have info about everything seen in the Keen games -- and when I created the articles I mentioned right from the start that they aren't official names but could be suitable names as they're named in fashion of Vortimom and Vortikid and so on. --[[User:KeenRush|KeenRush]] 11:37, 28 January 2007 (GMT)
== Spoiler template ==

I think we are needing a Spoiler template (like the one used in Wikipedia. --[[User:Shadow Master|Shadow Master]] 11:21, 28 January 2007 (EST)

:Agreed, I'll set up a spoiler template now and let you know when it's ready. -- [[User:Malvineous|Malvineous]] 11:28, 28 January 2007 (EST)

== Links to dedicated Keener pages ==

Also, would it be possible to use links to formal pages about every Keener instead of redirecting to a not-so-formal Userpage, for exxample [[Ceilick (Keener)]] instead of [[user:Ceilick]]?? Ah, forgot to sign --[[User:Shadow Master|Shadow Master]] 11:21, 28 January 2007 (EST)

:Would that really be necessary? What would you put on the official page that you couldn't put on the userpage? -- [[User:Malvineous|Malvineous]] 11:28, 28 January 2007 (EST)

::In my user page I'd put "I'm the Shadow Master, I live in blahblah de blah." In my official page I'd put "Ignacio R. Morelle, also known in the Keen community as the Shadow Master, joined in September 2006 and has produced several mods, etc. etc. etc.". Not very formal the user page I think. Just look at Djaser's. Does it tell useful information for a link? Or no link to user info at all, or a link to a more formal user info page, in my opinion. --[[User:Shadow Master|Shadow Master]] 11:34, 28 January 2007 (EST)

:::Hmmm, I still think you could put all that formal info on your userpage (and there's nothing stopping you from editing someone else's userpage.) I'm a little reluctant to have *two* pages for everyone in the wiki. Although I suppose for those people who don't have wiki accounts... Okay, go ahead and make a page like [[Ceilick (Keener)]] and add it to [[:Category:Keeners|<nowiki>[[Category:Keeners]]</nowiki>]]. Also put a link to their userpage on it if they've got an account (even if their userpage is currently empty.) We'll need to have some sort of policy on this though - you must have created a mod, utility or something of use to the Keen community before you get a dedicated Keener page like this. -- [[User:Malvineous|Malvineous]] 11:49, 28 January 2007 (EST)

::::Perhaps I'll wait to see how many users register in here till the third week of next month. I'll then start linkifying to regular pages for those who don't have an account but have contributed a lot (i.e. Andrew Durdin). But I'll start linkifying to user pages for those who have already registered now, even if they have not contributed outside of this wiki, they deserve a link in my opinion if they are contributing to the wiki--[[User:Shadow Master|Shadow Master]] 11:53, 28 January 2007 (EST)

:::::You should probably keep it uniform - either always link to user pages or always link to dedicated pages. Actually I'm warming to the idea of having dedicated pages, because you could always use an infobox (like on the [[Garg]] page) which could contain standard info like PCKF usernames, number of mods or tools released, etc. -- [[User:Malvineous|Malvineous]] 11:59, 28 January 2007 (EST)

== Double pages ==
[[Keen1_Creatures]], [[category:Keen_1_enemies]], [[category:Keen_1_creatures]].</pre> The second and third example are not linked to on the main page anyway.... [[User:Djaser|Djaser]] 12:21, 29 January 2007 (GMT)

[[Vorticons]] are a peace-loving race that have been enslaved by the [[Gannalech]]. There are several kind of Vorticons. Some of them are more difficult to stun than others, and all of them don't kill Keen when touched.

It seems Vorticons have spread to different areas in space. Many still live on the home planet of the race, [[Vorticon VI]], which still seems to be somekind of central for them. Vorticons have an outpost in [[Mars]], and Keen confronted them there for the first time. In [[Keen 2]], a [[Vorticon Mothership]] looms above the Earth, ready to wipe out eight famous cities from the map. Aboard the ship Keen meets Vorticons he hasn't seen before and later on Vorticon VI, in [[Keen 3]], he encounters even more.
