The Blaze family is a family consisting of five persons: Billy Blaze, his father Arthur, his mother Susan, his brother, and his sister.

Members and Relations
The patriarch of the the Blaze family is Arthur Kenneth Blaze né Blazkowicz, a television talk show personality in Milwaukee, Wisconsin who, for the purposes of show business, has changed his last name from Blazkowicz to Blaze. He is married to Susan Elizabeth Blaze née McMichaels, and is the son of William Joseph "B.J." Blazkowicz—a top spy for the Allied Forces in World War II—and Julia Marie Blazkowcz née Peterson.

Arthur and Susan have three children: two boys and one girl. However the name and age of only one of their children has ever been revealed.

Eight-year old Billy Blaze (full name William Joseph Blazkowicz II) is often assumed to be the middle of the three children, for reasons discussed below. More information on him is found in the article Commander Keen.

Arthur and Susan's other son is assumed to be older than Billy because it is his much-too-large football helmet that Billy dons every time he goes adventuring as Commander Keen. In one piece of fan literature he was given the name Robert "Bobby" Blaze.

Arthur and Susan's daughter is mentioned only in the lyrics of the Keen 4 song You've Got to Eat Your Vegetables!. In the lyrics, penned by the song's composer Bobby Prince, Billy's sister sings:
:You've got to eat your vegetables... Na-na-na-na-na!
From her behaviour fans have thought she is younger than Keen. Though not strictly an official source, the song is an important and well-known Keen track, and the existence of Billy's sister not questioned among fans. Indeed, she has been given the unofficial names of Lily Blaze and Becky Blaze, and is found in some fan-art.

In addition to Arthur Blaze and his immediate family, there is one other known, more distant, descendent of B.J. and Julia Blazkowicz: Sergeant Stan Blazkowicz, the protagonist of the DOOM series.

Occasionally, Billy is baby-sat by his rival Mortimer's sister, Molly McMire. It is not known whether the Blaze family is well-acquainted with the The McMire Family.

Appearances
Keen's parents are first mentioned in the ending of Keen 1. It seems they had gone out and left Keen sleeping, but he had escaped to explore Mars. After repairing his ship, he beats them home, and is already back in bed when they get back. At first Keen's parents were a bit shocked to find Keen had brought a Yorp into house, but they let him keep Spot nevertheless.

Keen's mother is mentioned again in the Keen 2 ending. After Keen returns from the Vorticon Mothership and sleeps for a while, his mother comes to wake him up and tell him that there is no school that day because it had snowed.

Keen's mother is mentioned in the Keen Dreams story, telling Keen to eat his vegetables. She is mentioned in the game's ending too, talking with Keen about his change in attitude towards vegetables.

Keen's parents appear yet again in the Keen 4 story, calling Keen to supper, and almost finding him departing on the Bean-with-Bacon Megarocket. Keen stuns them both and departs for Gnosticus IV. At the ending of the game, the first picture of Keen parents can be seen, being still stunned and under a sky about to rain. At the ending of Keen 5, Keen helps his already rain-soaked parents back to consciousness, in the second (and last) picture of Keen parent's found in the games.

Lastly, Keen's parents are vaguely mentioned in the Keen 6 story, as being out of the house (while Keen is baby-sat by Molly). Keen is worried on what they will say if they come back and find the babysitter missing.

Keen's brother is mentioned in the story of all Keen games with the exception of Keen 5.

As previously mentioned, Keen's sister only appears in the lyrics of You've Got to Eat Your Vegetables!
The wetsuit is an item in Keen 4. Keen needs it to be able to enter the Three-Tooth Lake and especially the Well of Wishes, which is an underwater level. He can find the suit in Miragia. The level is finished by collecting the suit.

Princess Lindsey hints to Keen that "There's gear to help you swim in Three-Tooth Lake. It's hidden in Miragia."

It is not clear where the wetsuit comes from, but it is very likely that it was created by the native Gnosticenes of the planet.

Modding info
Technically speaking, Keen does not need the wetsuit to enter Three-Tooth Lake if he accesses it without going through the shoreline, i.e. by using the no-clipping cheat and walking around the entrance to the lake. In the same way, if you use this method, you will not need the wetsuit to enter the Well of Wishes, as there is no code in the game engine that checks for the wetsuit before allowing you to enter the level, regardless of whether you're using the level warp cheat or not. This is useful for modders to know, as missing this item will not stop the player from entering the level; rather an obstruction must be placed on the world map that can only be passed when the player is in possession of the item.

The Standard Galactic Alphabet (SGA) is a writing system used throughout the Commander Keen series. It is a simple substitution cypher, where each letter in the Latin alphabet has been substituted with a different symbol. The SGA can be used to write in different languages; however, in the games the SGA is used to write messages in the English language only.

Structure
Besides the 26 letters, SGA uses spaces for its interword separation, and in some occasions a ._. symbol as a full stop. In the Keen 1 level in which most players obtain the pogo stick, a short horizontal dash above a long one appears on either side of the word "POGO", perhaps as quotation marks (though not listed in any of the official translations). No other known punctuation exists. There is also no capitalization, and numerals are also absent. For this reason, numbers are normally spelled out in words.

History
The SGA was created by Tom Hall. Originally for Keen 1 he drew some graphics for 'Exit' signs which he made look a bit more alien by changing the ordinary Latin letters a bit. After that he added other signs saying "hi" and "this is neat" (near Rayguns), and he ended up creating conversions for the other letters of the Latin alphabet in order for the signs to resemble writings in an alien language.

Official Translations
The SGA can be figured out by looking at the many signs throughout the games. While Keen 1 only has 15 letters displayed anywhere (A, B, C, D, E, H, I, K, L, N, O, S, T, X, and Y), later games have more. Keen 3 is particularly helpful, since it has a relatively large number of signs with both SGA and Latin letters.

In Keen 3, a sign with the complete SGA can be found in the secret level, similar to the Rosetta Stone. Another alphabet sign can be found in Keen 6 in the secret Blooglab Space Station level.

The most important message written in SGA is The Mortimer Letter that can be read by the player in the Keen 5 ending sequence.

Debate
There is some debate over the shape of some of the letters, such as the Z. In the reference translation above (which is remarkably similar to the translation found in Keen 3), it is shown as two vertical bars with a horizontal bar connecting them at the top. In Keen 6, the translation image is much smaller so each "bar" appears only one pixel wide/high. This gives the impression it should be a rounded shape, like an upside down U. However because of the increased resolution in the Keen 3 version, one could argue that it is not supposed to be rounded, otherwise it would contain curves like the letters N and O do (or even the top of the letter A.)
Strife contains a texture which appears to be slightly-modified SGA, most prominently in MAP12: The Temple of the Oracle; as pointed out in the second linked page, they appear to read DAMEX from top to bottom.

The Standard Galactic Alphabet was also incorporated into Minecraft in October 2011, when it became used for Enchantments. The enchantment name translated as a meaningless sentence, and had little to do with the resulting enchantment.
Commander Keen 4: Secret of the Oracle begins months after Keen frees the Vorticons from Mortimer McMire. While trying out his latest invention, the Photachyon Transceiver, Keen stumbles upon a strange, distorted message spoken in Omnispeak, a language which the Vorticons had taught him. From what he can hear in the transmission, Keen learns that an unknown race called the Shikadi are going to destroy the Milky Way in the name of a mysterious Gannalech. He thinks it sounds like a job for Commander Keen, so he dons his brother's football helmet and sets his Bean-with-Bacon Megarocket towards Gnosticus IV, the home planet of the Gnosticenes, the guardians of the Oracle — they owe him one, from some adventure never mentioned in greater detail. Keen needs information on who the Shikadi are and where he can find them.

When he arrives at his target he meets an irritating and scared Council Page who tells him that the Shikadi had been there, that they had taken the Council Members, and that they imprisoned them in the Shadowlands far to the west (evidently the Shikadi were worried or aware that the Oracle knew of their plans and acted to prevent the Oracle from telling anyone). Stranding the Council Members in the wilderness was the easiest way to keep them from interfering, as they are immortal. Keen decides to rescue them and flies to the Shadowlands, where dangerous creatures lurk in the jungles and deserts, caves and even underwater — some of them being native and others what the Shikadi left there to guard the Gnosticenes.

Billy Blaze toils in his backyard workshop, busily constructing his latest invention: the Photachyon Transceiver. Put in simple words, it is instantaneous radio -- point to anywhere in the galaxy and you can pick up a signal as if you were right there. After picking up a lot of very bad alien sitcoms, Billy hears a strange message, spoken in the language of Omnispeak that the Vorticons taught him....

brrzzz....giggg....oment of great triumph...frzzt....ast the Milky Way will be... huzzzzz...terly destroyed...pyuneeeeeeg...can stop us now. We will remake the galaxy in the name of the Gannalech. Power to our race! Power to the Shikadi!

Then the radio is silent.

"So the Shikadi are planning to destroy the Galaxy, huh?" thinks Billy. "Sounds like a job for...COMMANDER KEEN!"

Billy once again dons his brother's football helmet, contemplating three questions:

--Who the heck ARE the Shikadi?

--Where are they?

--How are they planning to destroy the galaxy?

Climbing into the Bean-with-Bacon Megarocket's cockpit, Billy sets up the launch sequence for Gnosticus IV, the home of the Gnosticenes, guardians of the Oracle. They owe him a favor, and he needs to get some questions answered. The launch sequence begins....

"Suppertime, Billy!" announces his mom as she walks out to the workshop.

"Aw, nuts!" spouts Billy. He realizes there isn't enough time to stop the sequence and cover the ship! Thinking quickly, he pulls out his Neural Stunner, points it at the door, and waits.

One "Zzzzap!" later and his Mom is frozen in the doorway.

"Whew," says Keen.

"Honey? What's the matter?" says Billy's dad, coming out the back door.

"Double nuts!" mutters Billy. He peeks past his mom, takes aim and....

Once at Gnosticus IV, a Council Page runs up to him.

"Oh, Captain Keen!" he begins.

"That's Commander Keen," Billy corrects.

"The Shikadi were here, and they kidnapped the members of the High Council and took them to the Shadowlands far to the west."

"They didn't kill them?" Keen asks.

"Impossible. They are immortal," says the page. "So they just made sure they weren't available to activate the Oracle."

"Well, I'll just go get them," Keen says, turning with heroic determination.

"Um, but Captain Keen, they also left a bunch of horrible creatures and traps to guard them," says the Council Page.

"Well, I'll just go get them CAREFULLY, then," Keen says over his shoulder.

Keen turns to walk out the door, stops, turns and addresses the page.

"And if you call me Captain Keen again, I'm taking you with me."

Keen boldly heads out the door as the page mutters, "Sorry."

Commander Keen, Billy Blaze by his real name (full name William Joseph Blazkowicz II), is an eight-year-old child genius with an IQ of 314 (a reference to Pi and one point less than his nemesis Mortimer McMire). With his extreme intelligence, Keen has been able to make several inventions that he uses to aid himself in his adventures. His inventions are also an important part in each episode's story.

In his spare time, Keen defends the Universe and maintains the order of galactic laws. He travels intergalactic distances in his space ship, the Bean-with-Bacon Megarocket, which he designed and built out of typical house-hold materials. When at home, he spends time in his Club House, inventing things and scanning space with his Photachyon Transceiver, which is also an invention of his.

Keen wears blue jeans, red converse, a purple T-shirt, and his older brother's yellow Green Bay Packers football helmet. He has brown hair and is of very pale complexion. He has the ability to jump quite high, and can reach even higher since he discovered the pogo stick on his trip to Mars. The pogo has since become his trademark move. Moreover, he has the ability to stay unharmed after jumping from any height (unless the surface is dangerous, e.g. fire, spikes, alien monsters etc.), and always lands on his feet.

Keen has a pet Yorp called Spot. He adopted it when he was first on Mars. He has a mother and father, and an older brother and a younger sister. The age of his siblings is actually never revealed, however.

On his trips, Keen, while knowing much already, also learns new things, such as Omnispeak that was taught to him by the Vorticons, and the Standard Galactic Alphabet in Vorticon VI. Besides Earth, some of the planets Keen has visited on his travels include Mars, Vorticon VI, Gnosticus IV, Korath III and Fribbulus Xax. Keen is a friend of several alien races, including the Vorticons and the Gnosticenes (who still owe Keen a favour).

Miragia is level in Keen 4, located in the Shadowlands desert (between Lifewater Oasis and Sand Yego).

Miragia consists of a domed city that constantly disappears and reappears, as do the crystal platforms inside the level. In the world map, it will not appear if Keen is standing in its spot while its hidden. Keen has to wait for it to completely appear before he can enter it. The level name probably comes from the word mirage, as the city appears to be a mirage that fades in and out in the desert.

Miragia is probably the strangest and most distinctive level in all the Keen games. There is no explanation at all about its origins or nature. Miragia may be an outpost, that continually hides itself to prevent the dangerous creatures of the Shadowlands from noticing it. It may also be an experimental technology, or even an enchanted or cursed city. In any case, it is very likely it was built either by the current Gnosticenes of the planet, or less likely, by the old (and probably extinct) civilization of the Gnosticene Ancients (which does not appear to be so technologically advanced).

In any case, Miragia has been clearly overrun by the creatures of the Shadowlands, and there are not many traces of its original inhabitants. It is currently populated mostly by Poison Slugs and Mad Mushrooms, though there are some Skypests and Wormouths also.

The level consist of a series of domes, covering several ledges and climbable platforms, most of which fade in and out of existance. If Keen climbs his way up, down, and then up again, he can easily finish the level. However, there are several optional areas of the level which contain many point items, and an extra life reachable from the topmost right area of the level.

Miragia is an important level in the game, as Keen needs to get the Wetsuit from there to be able to enter the levels in Three-Tooth Lake and rescue the Council Members trapped there.
* See also Keen 4 Bugs for a bug related to the disappearing crystal platforms.
* See also List of Keen 4 Levels.
* Miragia contains a total of 54,500 points, meaning 64 Shikadi Sodas, 8 Three-Tooth Gums, 15 Shikkers Candy Bars, 6 Jawbreakers, 4 Doughnuts and 5 Ice Cream Cones (6,400 + 1,600 + 7,500 + 6,000 + 8,000 + 25,000 = 54,500). The number of drops is 64. The Lifewater Flask is hidden in the lower right corner of the level.
The Well of Wishes is a level in Keen 4. It is located on one of the three islands in Three-Tooth Lake, in the Shadowlands of Gnosticus IV. Its entrance appears to be a well, and the inside of the level seems to be the watery depths within the well.

The level is interesting in many aspects. It is the only underwater level in the Keen series, and controlling the scuba-diving Keen is radically different in it. The level being underwater, Keen cannot jump or use his pogo stick, and the Neural Stunner does not work, either. (Note: By pressing the jump key, Keen can gain more speed, though.) Due to it being the only underwater level, it features creatures not seen elsewhere in the game, such as Sprites, Schoolfish, and the most famous Keen creature, Dopefish. There are also Underwater Mines that explode on contact.

The level is a huge underwater maze of tunnels, with most of them leading to dead-ends, some containing point items. Keen has to swim his way around it, and eventually get to a cave where, after a stone door frame, is the Council Member. This last cave is guarded by one or two Dopefishes, depending on the difficulty level. With two Dopefish, passing through can be a big challenge.

Miscellaneous info
* The total points in the Well is 20,600. That means 7 Shikadi Sodas, 22 Three-Tooth Gums, 13 Shikkers Candy Bars and 9 Jawbreakers (700 + 4,400 + 6,500 + 9,000 = 20,600). As an underwater level, there are no drops to be collected (unfortunately, there aren't any Doughnuts or Ice Cream Cones either).
New Vorticon is the fifth level (in the official numbering) in Keen 3. It is an optional level, located in the New Vorticon Island, in the Main area. This level is protecting a teleporter that goes to the Teleporter Plains area of the New Vorticon Island.

This level is part of one of the two optional paths to finish the game: the player can complete either Lower Vortiville and this level in one path; or just Valden Park in the other path. After that, the only remaining required levels are those in the Island of the Grand Intellect.

New Vorticon is the biggest Vorticon city in the planet. This level, though called New Vorticon, is probably only the downtown part of the city, which spreads through the whole New Vorticon island. This level consists of four apartment buildings, three of which are fairly large, and one of which includes a pool on its roof. New Vorticon also has a park, called Central Park, and a big subway, which oddly enough has only parked aircars and no trains (though it can be assumed that the aircars represent the trains that operate in the subway). Vorticon Grunts, Vorticon Women and Youths populate the city. However, unlike Vortiville, where natural wildlife such as Foobs and Meeps can be found, New Vorticon is urban enough to support only Vorticon life. The population is estimated at 40 Vorticons, the highest Vorticon concentration on Vorticon VI, or at least those were the figures before Keen visited the city.

This level (and probably the whole island) is based on Earth's New York, which also has its own Central Park.

Marooned on Mars - Galaxy mod is a Keen 5 mod released by Dr. Colossus.

This mod is a remake of Keen 1: Marooned on Mars. It is notable for being the first full mod conversion from the old classic Keen 1 game - remade and merged - into the Galaxy engine.

Story
:Main article: Bean-with-Bacon Megarocket

In this episode, aliens from the planet Vorticon VI find out about the eight year-old genius and plan his destruction. While Keen is out exploring the mountains of Mars, the Vorticons steal vital parts of his ship and take them to distant Martian cities!
Keen must explore the planet, fight the Martians and their Butler Robots and Tank Robots, find the members of this Vorticon outpost and wrest the parts back from their wicked, clawed hands!

The four parts are the Joystick (for manual flight control), the Car Battery (for electrical systems power), the Vacuum Cleaner (reworked as an ion propulsion unit) and the Everclear (alcohol for fuel).

Bounders are ball-shaped creatures native to Gnosticus IV, specifically the Shadowlands. They bounce around, occasionally getting in the way, but are otherwise harmless.

The in-game help text states: These red, friendly, bouncing guys can be annoying, but they can be helpful, too!

Physiology and Behaviour
Bounders are red, ball-like creatures. They have large, connected eyes. These eyes can be opened and closed, or at the least made smaller and larger. They also have two somewhat thick, black, detached eyebrows which float above their eyes. Bounders lack any visible teeth, which would presumably make eating difficult. Their diet is unknown, but is assumed to consist of plants and such. Unlike the Dopefish, they do not eat heroes. They are very tough and can be stood upon and pogoed off of, which often allows Keen to reach higher areas. During the day, they bounce around the planet randomly. It is unknown whether or not they ever sleep, since the games in which they are found occur during the day.

Dangers
Alone, these creatures can cause no harm to Keen. They do have the uncanny ability to push Keen into hazards, similar to other creatures throughout the series, such as Yorps. Other creatures that possess this ability include Butler Robots, Scrubs, Carrot Couriers, Little Amptons, Koraths, and Blooglets.

Habitat
This creature can be found in the following locations.

{|class="wikitable"
! Location !! Easy !! Normal !! Hard

Trivia
* If you shoot a bounder while riding it, if timed correctly, it will jump even higher than normal before finally falling to the ground.
* Bounders can be ridden upon to reach higher areas, and can even be pogoed off of.

Appearance in Keen GBC
Bounders also appear in Keen GBC. The description in the manual is slightly different from that in Keen 4 one:

Spud City is the seventh level in Tuberia. Despite its name, Spud City does not look like much of a city and most of its structure is actually underground. Above ground is made up of mostly wooden platforms to jump onto and one tower with a long pole. It is fairly easy to reach the exit, which is on the other side of the screen from where Keen starts. However, with 6 extra lives, 6 Boobus Bombs and the highest amount of points available in a single level, one would like to think no player would pass up attempting to obtain all the numerous goodies.

Spud City contains quite a few rarities throughout the level. First of all, it is one of two levels where the Magic Eyeball is found, the other level being The Melon Mines. Secondly, it is one of two levels where 6 extra lives (1 Magic Eyeball + 3 Keens) can be found, the other level again being The Melon Mines. Thirdly, this is one of a few levels that have hidden areas and secret passages. In fact, this level has a complex network of secret passages and hidden areas underground. With no cheat code to reveal the secret passages, the player will have to do extensive exploration in order to find his/her way around the lower caverns. Without knowing where to find these passages, it may very well be impossible to go back up to the surface and to the exit. Many points and all 6 extra lives are hidden down here.

Fourth, this is one of two levels where going into the water will not kill Keen, the other level being Bridge Bottoms. A word of caution though, there is only one place where this will happen. Go into the water anywhere else and Keen will die. Fifth, this is only one of two levels where mosquitoes can be found, the other level is also Bridge Bottoms. Sixth and lastly, this is one of two levels were 6 Boobus Bombs can be found, the other level being Apple Acres.

Because there are 6 Boobus Bombs found in this level, if a player decided to finish the game by completing the fewest number of levels, all they would have to do is complete this level and Apple Acres in order to get the required 12 Boobus Bombs and then complete the only 3 required levels Horseradish Hill, Castle Tuberia and Boobus' Chamber and finish the game in 5 levels. The creatures you will encounter is this level are the Asparagusto, the Frenchy, a Melon Lips, and the Tater Trooper.
DoubleUhttps://keenwiki.shikadi.net/w/index.php?title=Keen_1_Story&diff=33950Keen 1 Story2017-09-26T15:41:21Z
DoubleU: punctuation

Commander Keen: Marooned on Mars is the first episode in the Commander Keen games. In this episode, aliens from the planet Vorticon VI find out about the eight-year-old genius and plan his destruction. While Keen is out exploring the mountains of Mars, the Vorticons steal vital parts of his ship and take them to distant Martian cities! The four parts are the Joystick (for manual flight control), the Car Battery (for electrical systems power), the Vacuum Cleaner (reworked as an ion propulsion unit) and the Everclear (alcohol for fuel) — see Bean-with-Bacon Megarocket for details. Keen must explore the planet, fight the Martians and their Butler Robots and Tank Robots, find the members of this Vorticon outpost and wrest the parts back from their wicked, clawed hands!
There are fewer Vorticons in this level than in Home A: only nine Vorticon Grunts and one of the two Vorticon Elders in the Vorticon Mothership (the other is in Home A). The layout of the level is convoluted, consisting mainly of steel bars making some sort of maze, and a large acid pool in the bottom. Sphereful are large spherical enemies that are found in Keen 5.

Sphereful were probably built by the Shikadi to help guard the Omegamatic. They are indestructible and unstunnable. The main body seems to be made of a glass-like substance resistant to damage, filled with some sort of plasma-energy discharge sparking between the diamond sensor points and the interior. They are thus impressive, but surprisingly simple, doing damage by cutting anything they contact with their spikes.

They move very slowly, floating around and using the four diamond sensors on their surface to detect targets. When they find one, they move slowly but surely towards them, killing them on touch.

The official help says:

The name "Sphereful" is possibly a portmanteau of "spherical" and "careful" (or possibly "fearful") named after its spherical shape and dangerous nature — or perhaps just a simple -ful suffix tacked onto "sphere".
Sphereful appear again in Keen GBC; on the Shikadi World, where they are very different, being an earlier version of the Omegamatic ones. They are weaker than those in Keen 5 and can be destroyed. They are also not spherical, being instead only roughly rounded and mostly metal. They are no longer diamond tipped, instead being equipped with two rotating "razor sensors". They will whizz about after Keen but are much less dangerous. They are described by the game manual as follows:

Cape Canavorta is the fourteenth level (in the official numbering) in Keen 3. It is an optional level, located in the Military Installation Island, along with Fort Vorticon, Fort Vorta Bella, Fort Vox and Fort Cavort (all of which are optional). However, it is in a special area separated from the other forts by mountains, and it can be accessed only by a teleporter (the upper-right one of the three in the Teleporter Plains on the New Vorticon Island). If the teleporter is used again after arriving to this area, it takes Keen back to the teleporter protected by Lower Vortiville in Vortiville Island.

There is another teleporter in the same area as this level, which when used takes Keen to the last island, the Grand Intellect Island. It is logical that this military base is one of the last levels before getting to the Grand Intellect; however, it is odd that it is not protecting the final teleporter, but just standing nearby.

This level appears to be the main training facility of the VortiNinjas, and the main military base of Vorticon VI. It has five distinct buildings, two of them clearly labeled in SGA as Barracks (which has a common bedroom and a bathroom) and Brig (where four Vorticon Grunts, three Meeps and one Foob(!) are being held captive). There are another two fortified buildings: one that appears to be a guard tower, and another that seems to be a storeroom or armory surrounded by a moat. There is also a big and spacious one that appears to be a training house. This level also has deadly barbed wire fences on top of most of the buildings, which are not found in any other level in the games. It appears that VortiNinjas love cakes: the only points in this level are Double Chocolate Cakes, apart from, of course, a couple of Stuffed Toy VortiNinjas.

The level is fairly linear, with Keen having to move to the right until the exit is reached. It is probably the hardest level in the game (with the possible exception of the Castle of the Grand Intellect). It contains 21 VortiNinjas, the hardest enemy in the game, and maybe in the whole Invasion of the Vorticons trilogy, not counting the unique Vorticon Commander. It is the only level where the player is in danger right after entering the level (apart from the boss level, the Castle of the Grand Intellect), and in this case, due to a nearby VortiNinja. It is also the level with the most Ankhs (three).

The name of the level is a play on Cape Canaveral, where the main NASA bases are on Earth. However, there are no space-related activities to be seen in this level.

Android Dummy is a hoax plotted by Mortimer McMire. Android Dummy was a robot controlling the Mangling Machine, its purpose was to make Keen think he has succeed destroying Mortimer, and thus give Mortimer more time to make his plans come true and keep Keen's attention elsewhere.

Android Dummy is actually the only picture of Mortimer ever seen — beside his helmet that can be found in Keen 5, and the "Grand Intellect" picture found in Vorticon homes which is only a silhouette —, assuming he has made it to resemble his features and style of clothing. He is first mentioned in Keen 5, and again in Keen 6.

The intelligence and knowledge of the Android is debatable; it is definitely capable of holding an intelligent conversation and appears to know at least a limited amount about Keen and his past. The android also appears able to have (or fake) emotions, deliberately goading Keen to make him angry. There are hints in the Keen 3 tileset that the android was supposed to be shocked when defeated, which is also indirect evidence of its "humanity".

It is unknown to what extent the android and the Grand Intellect — Mortimer's assumed name while ruling the Vorticons — are the same person. It is possible that the Grand Intellect was really the Android Dummy all along, or that the android was only in charge of the Mangling Machine, or anything between the two. (Like the Android managing operations on Vorticon VI only, while Mortimer controlled larger operations.) However, the most likely explanation is that the Android was just left there for Keen to find, while Mortimer was the one that did everything else.

Story
In this episode, aliens from the planet Vorticon VI find out about the eight year-old genius and plan his destruction. While Keen is out exploring the mountains of Mars, the Vorticons steal vital parts of his ship and take them to distant Martian cities!
Keen must explore the planet, fight the Martians and their Butler Robots and Tank Robots, find the members of this Vorticon outpost and wrest the parts back from their wicked, clawed hands!

The four parts are the Joystick (for manual flight control), the Car Battery (for electrical systems power), the Vacuum Cleaner (reworked as an ion propulsion unit) and the Everclear (alcohol for fuel) — see Bean-with-Bacon Megarocket for details.

Vorticon VI is the planet where Keen 3 takes place. It is presumably named after their largest group of inhabitants, the Vorticons. The "VI" suggests that there are at least five other planets in the Vorticon system closer to its star (similar to Earth being known as Sol III).

The planet itself is unusual: it has a big North polar cap, but the South one is considerably smaller, suggesting a higher axial tilt than Earth's. The planet has five major land masses, and the Keen 3 story hints that the "far side" of Vorticon contains nothing but ocean. Its atmosphere and gravity seem to be similar to those of Earth. The soil of the planet has a distinct purplish coloration.

Levels
The levels in Keen 3 are spread across the different continents of Vorticon VI. The first four levels are on the island of Vortiville. The next four levels, 5 to 8, are collectively refered in the game's story as New Vorticon, so the second island may be called thusly, after its main city. Levels 9 to 12 and level 14 are together on one landmass, and are collectively referred to as the Vorticon Military Installation. Level 13 is on an island on its own (the Secret Island), and levels 15 and 16 are on the final island, the Island of the Grand Intellect.

For a list of the levels, see Keen 3 Levels.

It is worth noting that the only two strictly required levels in the game are the Caves of Oblivion and the Castle of the Grand Intellect, located in the Island of the Grand Intellect. As most of the other levels are optional, Keen has two paths he can take to reach the final island: finish two levels, Lower Vortiville and New Vorticon, or just one level, Valden Park. After following either path, the Island of the Grand Intellect can be reached using the right sequence of teleporters. Therefore, using the shortest path, only three levels need to be finished to complete the game, leaving 13 optional levels! This is the only episode in the entire series with so few compulsory levels.

Islands, areas and teleporters
There are five known islands in Vorticon VI, each of them containing isolated "areas", separated by mountains and connected by a vast network of teleporters. The following is a description of the areas and the teleporter network. See the image on the right for a graphical view of the teleporter network.

The first island, where Keen lands his ship, is called "Island of Vortiville" in the game's story. It is divided into two areas, which may be called the Lower Vortiville and Upper Vortiville areas. Keen lands in the Lower Vortiville area where there are two levels, each of them near a teleporter: Vortiville (which may be avoided to get to the teleporter, Teleporter 1), and Lower Vortiville (which must be finished to get to its teleporter, Teleporter 2.) Teleporter 1 leads to a teleporter in the Upper Vortiville area, Teleporter 3, which if used leads back to Teleporter 1. In the Upper Vortiville area there are two levels: West Vortiville, which is optional, and Valden Park, which is protecting the second teleporter in that area, Teleporter 4.

Teleporter 2 leads to another island, the Main area of the New Vorticon Island, to Teleporter 5; when used, Teleporter 5 leads Keen back to Teleporter 2. Teleporter 4 leads to the Suburbs area in the New Vorticon Island, to Teleporter 7, which when used does not lead Keen back to Teleporter 4, but to Teleporter 3 in the same Upper Vortiville area (this is where the teleporters start to get confusing).

The second island Keen can reach, may be called "New Vorticon Island", as the game's story mentions it that way, and as the main level there is New Vorticon. It is separated in three areas: the Main area, the Suburbs area, and the Teleporter Plains. The Main area is where New Vorticon is located, where Keen arrives on Teleporter 5, and which is protecting another teleporter, Teleporter 6. Teleporter 6 takes Keen to the Teleporter Plains, to Teleporter 10.

In the Suburbs area, there are three small towns and three teleporters. The levels are Hal's Kitchen, Beens and The Bonks; all of them are optional. The three teleporters are Teleporter 7, 8 and 9: Teleporter 7 is the lowest one, Teleporter 8 is the west one, and Teleporter 9 is the east one. Teleporter 7 has already been explained. Teleporter 8 leads Keen back to Vortiville Island, to Teleporter 4. Teleporter 9 leads keen to the Telporter Plains area, to Teleporter 12 there.

The Teleporter Plains area is a small area in New Vorticon Island which only has three teleporters: 10 (the lower one), 11 (the west one) and 12 (the east one). Teleporter 10, when used, leads Keen to Teleporter 8 in the Suburbs area. The other two teleporters lead Keen to another island, the Military Installation Island: Teleporter 11 takes Keen to the Forts area, to Teleporter 13, and Teleporter 12 takes Keen to the Cape Canavorta area, to Teleporter 14.

As mentioned, the next island can be called the Military Installation Island, after some comments on the game's story. It has two areas: the Forts area, with four levels (Fort Vorticon, Fort Vorta Bella, Fort Cavort and Fort Vox) and one teleporter, Teleporter 13. When used, Teleporter 13 takes Keen back to New Vorticon Island, but to Teleporter 9. The other area is the Cape Canavorta area, which contains one level, Cape Canavorta, and two teleporters, Teleporter 14 and Teleporter 15. Teleporter 14 takes Keen to Vortiville Island, to Teleporter 2, while Teleporter 15 takes Keen to the final island, the Island of the Grand Intellect, to Teleporter 16.

The final island, as mentioned, is the Island of the Grand Intellect. It contains one teleporter, Teleporter 16, which when used takes Keen to Teleporter 13 in the Forts area of the Military Installation Island. The island has two levels: the Caves of Oblivion, and the Castle of the Grand Intellect. It is also has a beach and access to the ocean.

The Secret Island has no teleporters and can only be accessed with the help of Messie. It has a beach and one level, the Hidden City.

The Caves of Oblivion is the fifteenth level (in the official numbering) in Keen 3. This is the next to last required level, as it is protecting the Castle of the Grand Intellect, in the Island of the Grand Intellect. It consists of a big maze of caves inside a mountain, and is probably used by the Grand Intellect to confuse intruders trying to get to his castle.

There are two exits in this level: the normal, hard one; and the alternative, easy one. The normal one is intended to be reachable by navigating through the cave maze, after getting the four keycards; the alternative one can be reached jumping over the mountain. However, as in Hal's Kitchen, part of the level, the last section, is not accessible due to what may be a level design oversight. In addition, a multitude of spikes in front of this door make it impossible to reach. Therefore, the normal exit cannot be reached, and the only way to finish the level is through the alternative exit. Even if it was accessible, however, it most likely would not be worth the trouble; the level is a vast labyrinth with numerous hazards (including a lot of Vorticon Grunts, VortiNinjas and balls and jacks) and relatively few points.

It could be that this inaccessible section is purposeful — as in the story it is said that Keen "will face the impossible maze of the Caves of Oblivion!" This is further evidenced by the sign near the beginning that says, "GO UP" in Standard Galactic.

This level name is unconfirmed. If you know of the correct name, please discuss it on the talk page before renaming it.

The Second Ice Shrine is level number fifteen in Keen 1. The shrine itself is very small, and not directly protected by any Martian. However, most of the level consists of a slightly frozen and long building, full of Martians, before the shrine.

This level is full of fall-through bricks, which seem identical to regular bricks. Also worth noting is the 'trick exit' in this level. It can be found near the very beginning of the level. As Keen walks towards it, he suddenly falls through cracked bricks in the floor. It can be reached, but only through God-mode.

Besides that, the level is fairly linear, though keycards have to be collected, and some forth-back trips need to be done to open the blue and red doors. In the level's current state, the green and yellow keycards serve no purpose (as there is no yellow door and the only thing behind the green door is the yellow keycard).

There is a message in this level which is displayed when the player touches the statue of a Yorp. The message is:

In this and other ice levels, such as the Ice City, the First Ice Shrine and the Vorticon Commander's Castle, there are two kinds of slippery surfaces: white blocks, which are slippery when walked upon but can Keen can still be controlled; and ice blocks, where Keen looses control unless he jumps off the block. In this level, only ice blocks can be found.

The Korath III Base is a secret level in Keen 5. It is the only level in the game that is not located onboard the Omegamatic, but on the planet Korath III. This level can only be accessed by way of the Gravitational Damping Hub. The Korath natives are only found in this level.

The layout of the level is tall and thin, with largely vertical movement. Roughly in the middle of the level is a long vertical drop with 160 Vitalin jars. This is located between the two large buildings that comprise the main part of the level.

The Korath III Base is not a typical Korath city; rather, it seems it was built by the Shikadi as a base of operations during the early stages of the Omegamatic's construction. As it became more complete, the Shikadi and most of their robot workforce moved aboard the Omegamatic. The base is still staffed by a small number of Little Amptons and also keeps active defense measures, but it is only used for protecting their getaway ship.

Playing this level on Easy difficulty with version 1.0 of Keen 5 will result in the game crashing with a "Goplat moved to bad spot" error a few seconds after entering the level. Playing on another difficulty will avoid this issue, as will upgrading to a later version of Keen 5.

Miscellaneous info
* There are no less than 136,900 points in the Base. That means 99 Shikadi Gums, 18 Chocolate Milks, 6 Tart Stixes and 6 Sugar Stoopies Cereals, also a whopping 20 Bags O' Sugar (9,900 + 9,000 + 6,000 + 12,000 + 100,000 = 136,900). The 160 Vitalin jars are worth more than an extra life. Additionally, two Kegs O' Vitalin can be found in here.
* It's interesting that there are no Marshmallows at all.
* 16 of the Bags O' Sugar form two letters of the SGA: an 'I' and a 'D', referring to id.

{{Spoiler|A secret fuse is located in the top left of the level. Destroying it causes the level to end, and part of the game ending sequence to change. Keen Dreams or Commander Keen in Keen Dreams, is a Commander Keen game created after the Keen 3 and before Keen 4, and is often considered "Keen 3.5" or otherwise as coming in between the two main series of Keen games. It is notable for its lack of a pogo stick, Neural Stunner or raygun, with Keen using Flower Power to temporarily incapacitate foes. It also lacks SGA lettering, presumably because the game doesn't take place in space. The game centers around a general theme of vegetables.

The episode was not widely released until some time after the Goodbye Galaxy series, often earning it the title of the "Lost episode."

Keen Dreams was ported to the Android platform by the Super Fighter Team and released in June 2013. It can be downloaded from Google Play.

The Secret City is a secret level in Keen 1. It is hidden in the dark side of Mars, behind a chain of mountains. This level can be reached by using the hidden teleporter in Red Maze City. It is one of the few levels in the game with an official name, given in the printed game sheet.

This is one of the biggest levels in the game. It is made out of red bricks mostly, and has several winding passages. There are no robots in this level, only Yorps and Gargs. Though it is relatively easy to get to the exit, the idea of the level seems to be to explore it to get as many points as possible.

This is the level with the most points to be collected in the game. However, it is also one of the few levels with an uncollectable score item: there is a book in the top left area of the level which cannot be reached, since the path to it is only one tile tall, and Keen is (approximately) two tiles tall. (Another level with an unreachable item, a lollipop, because of its height, is Capital City).

The so called November Beta version of this level has some slight differences: The last part of the level near the exit, does not have all the Teddy Bears but a Tank Robot and a Garg instead.

The Korath III Base is a secret level in Keen 5. It is the only level in the game that is not located onboard the Omegamatic, but on the planet Korath III.

The First Ice Shrine is level number 10 in Keen 1. Half of the level is a regular shrine, protected by a yellow door, but with no Martians inside. Before the shrine, however, there is an ice building with several Martians protecting the yellow key.

There is a message in this level which is displayed when the player touches the statue of a Yorp. The message is:
{{Box|You see these words in your head:

In this and other ice levels, such as the Ice City, the Second Ice Shrine and the Vorticon Commander's Castle, there are two kinds of slippery surfaces: white blocks, which are slippery when walked upon but can Keen can still be controlled; and ice blocks, where Keen loses control unless he jumps off the block.
These enemies march about the ground, pacing back and forth until Keen comes in range of them, at which point they take off and give chase through the air. They can be temporarily paralyzed with one shot from the Neural Stunner.

The Blue Bird is not mentioned in the In-Game Help text, and thus, there is no text available. "Blue Bird" is not even an official name, as these are ordinarily listed through the help text.
Blue Birds are, as their names suggest, blue birds resembling eagles. They have large blue wings that allow them to pursue Keen aerially, as well as short legs which allow them to patrol the ground while not flying. They cannot be completely stunned, but stop momentarily when hit by a shot, similarly to Arachnuts. If this occurs while the Blue Bird is in the air, it will drop to the ground, and can resume flight once it revives itself.

Dangers
Their resistance to being stunned as well as their maneuverability to virtually any area of the level makes Blue Birds a serious threat. If Keen comes into contact with them at any point, he is killed instantly, with the exception of hitting an unhatched blue bird egg, which will break, releasing the enemy within.

Crystalus is a level in Keen 4. It is located in the northern, mountainous region of the Shadowlands of Gnosticus IV.

Crystalus seems to be some sort of crystaline structure, maybe made from ice. It is not clear if it is artificial or a natural formation. It has a mostly vertical orientation, with lots of ledges and floating and moving platforms.

The Council Member in this level is trapped in a long cave, after the stone door in the lower right side of the level. To get to that door, Keen must obtain the blue gem. In order to get it, Keen must first climb all the way to the top, and fall between the two main floating structures, to get the green gem. With that gem, Keen can climb up the right structure, to the top, open the green door, and get the yellow gem. Then, Keen has to get to the upper left side of the level, to open the yellow door and get the red gem. Once he gets it, he has to return to the right area, and climb up to the red door. After that door is the blue gem that grants him passage to the Council Member cave.

Crystalus is populated mainly by many Poison Slugs. There are also a couple Mad Mushrooms, Skypests and Licks. It is one of the two levels (the other being the Chasm of Chills) where Blue Birds can be found.

Miscellaneous info
Crystalus holds a total of 89,100 points, including 45 Shikadi Sodas, 8 Three-Tooth Gums, 82 (!) Shikkers Candy Bars, 23 Jawbreakers, 2 Doughnuts and 3 Ice Cream Cones (4,500 + 1,600 + 41,000 + 23,000 + 4,000 + 15,000 = 89,100). There are nor drops, neither Lifewater Flasks in here.

Crystalus features a strange bug, where in the last part of the level, if you stand on a higher part of the level and pause or bring up the status panel, it will show you the bottom of the level, marked "edge of map", when you release; doing this elsewhere will fix it temporarily.

The Pyramid of the Moons is a level in Keen 4, located in the jungles of the Shadowlands. It is one of the Pyramids of Shadowlands. It is one of the two stepped pyramids, along with the Pyramid of Shadows. Appropiately enough, it has a drawing of a waning crescent moon over its entrance.

As with the other pyramids, there is no clear indication on what is the purpose of this building. Compared to the other pyramids, the Pyramid of the Moons has a simpler structure, though. The pyramid has three main areas: a large, open, upper area; a middle corridor-like area; and a lower, underground area. The main hazards in the level are the knife shooters, which are placed in quite deadly places. The level is mainly populated by Licks and Inchworms, with a few Poison Slugs and an Arachnut.

Keen starts in the middle corridor area. Midway through the corridor, there are six poles. Two pairs of them (1 and 3, 4 and 6) lead to and from smaller corridors below with points. The other two lead to doors: the first door leads to the lower area, and the second door leads to the upper area.

The lower area is completely optional, so the regular path goes through the higher area. Once there, Keen can use the moving platform to the right to get to the yellow gem. The rest of the area consists only of points. Once he gets the yellow gem, Keen can exit the level right away, going down, avoiding the Arachnut, opening the door to the right and leaving the pyramid.

However, this pyramid contains a number of optional secrets. There is a door at the top of the level, outside, which can be accessed from a very secret door in a small chamber full of Ice Cream Cones. Getting to it is very challenging, but once there, the player can gain access to the outside of the pyramid. As well as giving access to some points, this also gives you access to an easily reachable exit, that is located at the outside right edge of the pyramid.

In order to get to the pyramid's outside, Keen has to go to the lower area. Once there, he has to move to the left until he passes the four knife shooters. If he pogoes to the ceiling, there is a hidden pole he can grab. Climbing it leads to a small secret area, which contains a door. That door leads to a small ledge in the upper large area of the level, which contains an extra life. If Keen goes back to the secret area, he can jump up to another secret passage, which gets him to the aforementioned chamber with the Ice Creams.

If Keen goes back to the lower area, he can access the secret Pyramid of the Forbidden. Keen has to gather all the Inchworms that are moving around there. In order to accomplish that, he needs to have the yellow gem, but not to use it in the door to the exit, but in another yellow door in the right side of the lower area. There he can flip a switch that activates a bridge to the left, which allows some Inchworms stranded over there to reunite with the other ones. Keen has to be near the Inchworms for them to follow him, so after some moving around, he can have the twelve of them in one spot, and gain the access to the secret level by the Foot.

Miscellaneous info
* Another secret is related to the pictures of a crescent moon on that can be found on the floor throughout the level. Standing on one of these and waiting for a few seconds will cause Keen to moon the player, instead of blinking at the player as he normally does elsewhere. However, he will only do this once in the level.
* There a total of 63,500 points in this level. That means 46 Shikadi Sodas, 12 Three-Tooth Gums, 25 Shikkers Candy Bars, 4 Jawbreakers, 5 Doughnuts and 6 Ice Cream Cones (4,600 + 2,400 + 12,500 + 4,000 + 10,000 + 30,000 = 63,500). There are 37 drops to be collected, and one shouldn't forget about the hidden Lifewater Flask.

DoubleUhttps://keenwiki.shikadi.net/w/index.php?title=Tantalus_ray&diff=25127Tantalus ray2013-12-03T15:58:46Z
DoubleU: /* Construction */ Added scoring note.

Tantalus rays, more properly known as X-14 Tantalus Rays, are the main weapon of the Vorticon Mothership. There are eight of them, dispersed around various places on the mothership.

Construction
The rays are housed inside areas known as Tantalus Centers. Inside the centers, there is a special room, the Tantalus Control Room, where the ray itself resides. These rooms have a very similar design, all of them having stairs leading up to the rays. Above each ray, there is a sign in the Standard Galactic Alphabet saying "TANTALUS", followed by the name of the city the ray is aiming at.

The Tantalus rays are powered by cells from the Big Purple Space Amoeba; one of which sits at the top of every Tantalus ray, with two Jacob's Ladders around it. The ray itself is a large rectangular block-like mass with one activation switch (with a sign with "ON" written in SGA), a visual screen and a plasma reactor. The reactor sends its power to the front of the Mothership via a long power cable that can be seen to run from underneath it, deep into the Mothership.

The rays are easy enough to operate, and in Keen 2 they have been pre-aimed at various important Earth cities. All that is required to turn them on is a simple flick of the activation switch; this can be done accidentally, as there are no security precautions in place to prevent premature or accidental firing.

The Tantalus rays are also rather fragile, the single amoeba cell being their only (but significant) weak spot. A single shot is sufficient to destroy it, sending a pulse of energy through the entire system. This disrupts not only the Tantalus ray itself, but also all the electronics concerned with it. This can be seen as the visual screen goes blank when the ray is damaged. (This act gains Keen 10,000 points.)

When fired simultaneously, the separate blasts from each ray are directed to a firing bay at the head of the ship, which will then emit a blast of green energy of tremendous power which will stream toward its target at roughly twice the speed of sound. A single blast can destroy a planet, but all eight blasts simultaneously are probably needed to ensure total atomization of the target. If one or more of the rays is fired prematurely then the target will be fragmented, and these fragments pose a severe hazard to the Mothership, which must remain in orbit around its target.

Purpose
The Tantalus rays exist for the singular purpose of destroying Earth. The Vorticons' leader, the Grand Intellect, has commanded them to destroy Earth, and is controlling them to make sure they do so. Each Tantalus ray is aimed at a separate prominent Earth city. As mentioned earlier, this is unnecessary, so the choice of targets suggests a more personal or political take on the mission.

The "final" or most prominent ray is aimed at Washington D.C.; it is located in the nose of the ship, closest to the firing bay. Also, the United States is the only country with two cities as targets. This suggests either an American centered perspective, or anti-American bias on the part of the Vorticons and the Grand Intellect.

Targets
Each ray is aimed at a specific Earth city. In each of the visual screens, a famous building in or near that city is shown, probably indicating the exact point where the ray will hit.

The Vorticon Mothership is a large, Vorticon shaped spaceship used by the Vorticons to attack Earth. According to the plans that Keen obtains in Keen 2, it is powered by cells from the Big Purple Space Amoeba in eight separate places, each of which must be destroyed before the ship is fully disabled. These are known as Tantalus Rays, and each ray is aimed at a separate notable Earth city and can be activated with a simple switch. The eight cities targeted are as follows:

* Washington
* Moscow
* Rome
* Paris
* London
* Cairo
* Sydney
* New York

Keen's mission in Keen 2 is to board and disable the Mothership. It is notable that Keen enters the Mothership where the rear would be if it were a real Vorticon, suggestive of the quirky humor of the ID team that is also responsible for the later appearance of Fucl.

Levels
The Mothership contains a diverse array of levels. For a list of the levels on the mothership, see Keen 2 Levels.

None of the game's levels (except from Home A and Home B) has an official name. However, on the Mothership blueprints that act as world map, there is an inscription in the Standard Galactic Alphabet near each level. Levels containing Tantalus Control Rooms have the name of the city they are aiming at written next to them. They are usually called "<City> Tantalus Center", though they are never referred to that way in the games. Other levels contain two letters that are probably abbreviations of their names; however, the real names can only be theorized from those letters.

It is also worth mentioning that the Rome and Moscow maps must have been mixed up during the game's development, as entering the level marked Rome on the world map actually enters the Moscow level, and vice versa (see Keen 2 Bugs for more info.)

The two so-called "Home" levels appear to be some sort of nurseries, containing Youths and Vorticon Elders, which may suggest that on some level at least, the Mothership has nonmilitary functions. It is also possible that those levels are simply the sleeping quarters for the ship's crew.

Construction and design
Keen finds blueprints for the Vorticon Mothership on one of the Vorticons from Mars. The blueprints are shown as the world map in Keen 2. It can be noted that there is a small note on the blueprints, in the Standard Galactic Alphabet, saying "BLUEPRINTS ACME". Acme is probably the company that produced the blueprints; therefore, it is highly likely that they constructed the Vorticon Mothership itself for the Vorticons. Acme is probably a reference to the cartoon company that builds anything. It is also the company that built the Oracle in Keen 4.

The ship seems to have the following components. It seems to run on some plasma or atomic fuel, which is housed in the Reactor Core in the center of the ship. The energy is sent to the engines (Engine Room A and Engine Room B) near the rear thrusters, which allow the ship to move in space. The ship also seems to have two crew quarters (Home A and Home B), and a food storage bay (Bottom Galley). It also appears to have secondary attack systems on the two front paws, and next two them two weapon storages (Weaponry A and Weaponry B). The main attack system are the eight Tantalus Rays, controlled from the eight Tantalus Centers, which fire through the ship's mouth.

There is some debate as to why the Mothership is equipped with eight Tantalus rays when the activation of only one is sufficient to destroy the earth (something that can be seen if Keen flicks a Tantalus Control Switch). It is currently believed that these have two advantages: firstly to act as backups in case of a major attack or malfunction, and secondly, that the simultaneous (or nearly so) blast from all eight rays is needed to atomize the Earth and avoid formation of dangerous shrapnel that may pose problems for the orbiting Mothership.

The Treasure Eaters are enemies found in Keen 4, in the Shadowlands of Gnosticus IV.

Treasure Eaters can only be found in the Pyramid of the Gnosticene Ancients. They are large, red and quite spherical. They cannot walk and prefer to hop about. When they need to move larger distances they will teleport themselves, often with a shrill giggle. They live mostly off of candy that they will go to any lengths to steal.

If Keen does not defeat any Treasure Eaters in the Pyramid of the Gnosticene Ancients, they will end up stealing the green gem needed to rescue the Council Member, and Keen will have to start the level over again.

As these creatures are not listed in the in-game help, they have also been known as Smirky (for their constant smiling and giggling) and Gnosticene Ancients (for the level name where they can be found), but Tom Hall has stated:

See also List of Keen 4 Creatures.

Modding info
Treasure eaters will only take another hop if they see four consecutive tiles to their immediate right or left that are top blocking. If they cannot make another hop twice, then they will teleport to the next piece of Candy. They will search for candy and lifewater, and if it has all been collected, then they will disappear. They always select the first piece of candy that they see in the sprite list, (which is generally the top-left most piece of candy remaining). If Keen is given the power to teleport (by patching with CKPatch) he too will steal the same candy and will disappear when it is removed. The type of sprite that Treasure Eaters seek, and the number of unavailable moves they sense before teleporting can be patched. See Patch:Treasure Eater for further details.
Skypest are exceedingly annoying insect-like creatures who spend their time hovering around the skies of Gnosticus IV.

Skypests feed on blood, and will drain anyone they come into contact with. Rather like a dragonfly in appearance, they are immune to neural shots and can only be killed when they pause to rest on the ground, where they can be squished with something pointy, like a pogo stick.
Although stupid, they are reasonably fast and can be quite a nuisance, hence the name, a contraction of sky and pest.

Valden Park is the fourth level (in the official numbering) in Keen 3. Although this level has a sign at the beginning reading "Vortiville" there is already a level by that name so this level is named after the second sign instead, Valden Park.

Valden Park is an optional level, located in the Vortiville Island, in the Upper Vortiville area. This level is protecting a teleporter that goes to the Suburbs area of the New Vorticon Island. This level is part of one of the two optional paths to finish the game: the player can complete either this level in one path; or both Lower Vortiville and New Vorticon in the other path. After that, the only remaining required levels are those in the Island of the Grand Intellect.

Valden Park is probably only part of Vortiville, which is spread through the Vortiville island. This is the biggest level in the island, which means it is the central part of Vortiville. It has a small park where kids can play, and there is even a small school. What most villagers do not know is that there is a large fortress underneath it, manned mostly by VortiNinjas. The only way to enter the fortress is to jump in the waterfall. The population is estimated at 15 civilians and 5 military personnel. Wildlife such as Foobs and Meeps can be found in the parks.

It could be that this inaccessible section is purposeful — as in the story it is said that Keen "will face the impossible maze of the Caves of Oblivion!"
