Gnosticenes are the human-like natives of Gnosticus IV. The only known Gnosticenes are the eight Council Members, their janitor, their Council Pages, and Princess Lindsey. It is very likely there are other, regular Gnosticenes. All these Gnosticenes (with the exception of the Princess) seem to live around the Oracle, far to the east of the Shadowlands.

In the games, only the Council Members are refered to as "Gnosticenes". However, due to the fact that they are almost the only Gnosticenes shown in the game, and that the planet itself is called Gnosticus IV, it is very likely that the whole race is called that way.

Not much is known about the Gnosticene civilization and lifestyle. There might be a Gnosticene city around the site that the Oracle is located. Princess Lindsey might be the ruler of all the Gnosticenes, or only the Gnosticenes in that city, and may have moved to the Shadowlands to help free the Council Members. Physically, they seem to be a lot like humans. The main difference would seem to be the magical powers some of them seem to possess.

It is worth noting that the word gnosis is Greek for knowledge, so the name of this planet and its inhabitants is probably based on the fact that the Oracle, a "monolith of knowledge", is in the planet.

There is a level in the game, the Pyramid of the Gnosticene Ancients, that suggests that there was an ancient Gnosticene civilization (the "Ancients") that built the Pyramids of Shadowlands. Apart from the pyramids, not much is known about them.

It is not known if the (very crude) stone houses found on several levels (Border Village, The Perilous Pit and the Isle of Tar) are Gnosticene homes, though there are no Gnosticenes found nearby. (Even though in the map both Slug Village and Hillville seem to have stone houses, there are none found inside). As the Gnosticenes are the only advanced sentient species known to live in Gnosticus IV, it is very likely that they built those houses. It may be possible that they are either very old (like the pyramids), and were abandoned years ago, or that they were recently vacated after the Shikadi increased the level of danger in the Shadowlands. It is not very probable that the Shikadi built those houses, as they weren't long enough in the Shadowlands to need houses, and as their structural style is quite different.

Other structures found in the Shadowlands, such as the Well at the entrance to the Well of Wishes, the dissapearing city of Miragia, and the Sand Yego fortress (which seems to be artificial from the map), were probably built by Gnosticenes too. However, they seem to have abandoned all these dwellings. The Wetsuit is probably of Gnosticene manufacture as well.

An interesting mystery is a huge sculpture of a Poison Slug King found under Border Village. The Poison Slugs don't seem to be advanced enough to have built it. If Gnosticenes built it, it may be possible that at one time there was some sort of tribal religion centered around Poison Slugs.

Korath III is the third planet on the Korath system. The planet is orbited by the Omegamatic in Keen 5. According to the Oracle, it is located on the other side of the Milky Way from Gnosticus IV (and probably from Earth, which should be somewhat closer to Gnosticus IV).

Its surface is mostly yellow, with brown streaks that could be canyons. The clouds on the planet are purple. The planet is probably very dry, though it supports life. The Koraths are the only known inhabitants of the planet.

The Korath III Base is located on its surface. The Shikadi Ship was parked near the base by the Shikadi while they were building the Omegamatic.

Vorticon VI is the planet where Keen 3 takes place. It is presumably named after their largest group of inhabitants, the Vorticons. The "VI" suggests that there are at least five other planets in the Vorticon system closer to its star (similar to Earth being known as Sol III).

The planet itself is unusual: it has a big North polar cap, but the South one is considerably smaller, suggesting a higher axial tilt than Earth's. The planet has five major land masses, and the Keen 3 story hints that the "far side" of Vorticon contains nothing but ocean. Its atmosphere and gravity seem to be similar to those of Earth. The soil of the planet has a distinct purplish coloration.

Levels
The levels in Keen 3 are spread across the different continents of Vorticon VI. The first four levels are on the island of Vortiville. The next four levels, 5 to 8, are collectively refered in the game's story as New Vorticon, so the second island may be called thusly, after its main city. Levels 9 to 12 and level 14 are together on one landmass, and are collectively referred to as the Vorticon Military Installation. Level 13 is on an island on its own (the Secret Island), and levels 15 and 16 are on the final island, the Island of the Grand Intellect.

For a list of the levels, see Keen 3 Levels.

It is worth noting that the only two required levels in the game are the Caves of Oblivion and the Castle of the Grand Intellect, located in the Island of the Grand Intellect. As most of the other levels are optional, Keen has two paths he can take to reach the final island: finish two levels, Lower Vortiville and New Vorticon, or just one level, Valden Park. After following either path, the Island of the Grand Intellect can be reached using the right sequence of teleporters. Therefore, using the shortest path, only three levels need to be finished to complete the game, leaving 13 optional levels! This is the only episode in the entire series with so few compulsory levels.

Islands, areas and teleporters
There are five known islands in Vorticon VI, each of them containing isolated "areas", separated by mountains and connected by a vast network of teleporters. The following is a description of the areas and the teleporter network. See the image on the right for a graphical view of the teleporter network.

The first island, where Keen lands his ship, is called "Island of Vortiville" in the game's story. It is divided into two areas, which may be called the Lower Vortiville and Upper Vortiville areas. Keen lands in the Lower Vortiville area where there are two levels, each of them near a teleporter: Vortiville (which may be avoided to get to the teleporter, Teleporter 1), and Lower Vortiville (which must be finished to get to its teleporter, Teleporter 2.) Teleporter 1 leads to a teleporter in the Upper Vortiville area, Teleporter 3, which if used leads back to Teleporter 1. In the Upper Vortiville area there are two levels: West Vortiville, which is optional, and Valden Park, which is protecting the second teleporter in that area, Teleporter 4.

Teleporter 2 leads to another island, the Main area of the New Vorticon Island, to Teleporter 5; when used, Teleporter 5 leads Keen back to Teleporter 2. Teleporter 4 leads to the Suburbs area in the New Vorticon Island, to Teleporter 7, which when used does not lead Keen back to Teleporter 4, but to Teleporter 3 in the same Upper Vortiville area (this is where the teleporters start to get confusing).

The second island Keen can reach, may be called "New Vorticon Island", as the game's story mentions it that way, and as the main level there is New Vorticon. It is separated in three areas: the Main area, the Suburbs area, and the Teleporter Plains. The Main area is where New Vorticon is located, where Keen arrives on Teleporter 5, and which is protecting another teleporter, Teleporter 6. Teleporter 6 takes Keen to the Teleporter Plains, to Teleporter 10.

In the Suburbs area, there are three small towns and three teleporters. The levels are Hal's Kitchen, Beens and The Bonks; all of them are optional. The three teleporters are Teleporter 7, 8 and 9: Teleporter 7 is the lowest one, Teleporter 8 is the west one, and Teleporter 9 is the east one. Teleporter 7 has already been explained. Teleporter 8 leads Keen back to Vortiville Island, to Teleporter 4. Teleporter 9 leads keen to the Telporter Plains area, to Teleporter 12 there.

The Teleporter Plains area is a small area in New Vorticon Island which only has three teleporters: 10 (the lower one), 11 (the west one) and 12 (the east one). Teleporter 10, when used, leads Keen to Teleporter 8 in the Suburbs area. The other two teleporters lead Keen to another island, the Military Installation Island: Teleporter 11 takes Keen to the Forts area, to Teleporter 13, and Teleporter 12 takes Keen to the Cape Canavorta area, to Teleporter 14.

As mentioned, the next island can be called the Military Installation Island, after some comments on the game's story. It has two areas: the Forts area, with four levels (Fort Vorticon, Fort Vorta Bella, Fort Cavort and Fort Vox) and one teleporter, Teleporter 13. When used, Teleporter 13 takes Keen back to New Vorticon Island, but to Teleporter 9. The other area is the Cape Canavorta area, which contains one level, Cape Canavorta, and two teleporters, Teleporter 14 and Teleporter 15. Teleporter 14 takes Keen to Vortiville Island, to Teleporter 2, while Teleporter 15 takes Keen to the final island, the Island of the Grand Intellect, to Teleporter 16.

The final island, as mentioned, is the Island of the Grand Intellect. It contains one teleporter, Teleporter 16, which when used takes Keen to Teleporter 13 in the Forts area of the Military Installation Island. The island has two levels: the Caves of Oblivion, and the Castle of the Grand Intellect. It is also has a beach and access to the ocean.

The Secret Island has no teleporters and can only be accessed with the help of Messie. It has a beach and one level, the Hidden City.

The Treasure Eaters are enemies found in Keen 4, in the Shadowlands of Gnosticus IV.

Treasure Eaters can only be found in the Pyramid of the Gnosticene Ancients. They are large, red and quite spherical. They cannot walk and prefer to hop about. When they need to move larger distances they will teleport themselves, often with a shrill giggle. They live mostly off of candy that they will go to any lengths to steal.

If Keen does not kill any Treasure Eaters in the Pyramid of the Gnosticene Ancients, they will end up stealing the green gem needed to rescue the Council Member, and Keen will have to start the level over again.

As these creatures are not listed in the in-game help, they have also been known as Smirky (for their constant smiling and giggling) and Gnosticene Ancients (for the level name where they can be found), but Tom Hall has stated:

See also List of Keen 4 Creatures.

Modding info
Treasure eaters will only take another hop if they see four consecutive tiles to their immediate right or left that are top blocking. If they cannot make another hop twice, then they will teleport to the next piece of Candy. They will search for candy and lifewater, and if it has all been collected, then they will disappear. They always select the first piece of candy that they see in the sprite list, (which is generally the top-left most piece of candy remaining). If Keen is given the power to teleport (by patching with CKPatch) he too will steal the same candy and will disappear when it is removed. The type of sprite that Treasure Eaters seek, and the number of unavailable moves they sense before teleporting can be patched. See Patch:Treasure Eater for further details.

The Oracle is a large mysterious device, and as Keen himself calls it, a "monolith of ancient wisdom", located in Gnosticus IV. Eight of the Gnosticenes, the chosen Council Members, are needed to activate it, although their exact roles in the process are unknown (at least three of them chant the words "OYIM", "DIYAM" and "ONEM", and one of them clicks a large switch hidden behind the device).

The Oracle appears to posses a great deal of knowledge of current events in the Galaxy. It is capable of "speaking" to give the information it has (though it is not clear if it has a voice or if it sends telephatic messages). It can also project images in mid-air to illustrate the information it is giving. It has a bright light in its center, which glows red when it is activated, and yellow while speaking and showing images. According to a comment by one of the Council Members, it seems to run on batteries.

The writing in Standard Galactic Alphabet on the Oracle reads "ACME ORACLE", which implies that the Oracle was made by the ACME company (the same one that created the Vorticon Mothership blueprints, and possibly the mothership itself). See also the article on Acme Corporation.

The Shikadi had captured the eight Council Members (see Keen 4 Story) to prevent Keen from finding out information about themselves (the Shikadi). Getting information about the Shikadi is the very reason Keen goes to Gnosticus IV in the first place.

The writing in Standard Galactic Alphabet on the Oracle reads "ACME ORACLE", which implies that the Oracle was made by the ACME company (the same one that created the Vorticon Mothership blueprints).

After Keen frees the Council Members, the Oracle is able to tell him about the Shikadi: their basic nature, their location, their plan, and (most importantly) their appearance.
Defense Tower Surth is the fourth level of Battle of the Brains, a Keen 5 mod by Ceilick. Here Keen travels to the Shikadi homeworld in order to open one of the four security doors blocking the fifth teleporter.

The level consists of green formations and blue and purple backgrounds. The Shikadi Aggrolytes and their Vlorg companions are the main enemies in Shikadus I, but Keen will also encounter the Service Droid, Shikadi Probe, the Bio-Garg, and the Cybloog, one of which is guarding the keypad door which will open up one of the four security doors guarding the fifth teleporter.

This level's name might be a misnomer, as the level goes in a squarish fashion, as opposed to the "tunnel" fashion of Defense Hall M, or the "tower" fashion of Bloogton Tower.

Ceilick's name can be found written with pipes somewhere in the level.

Infobox placement
There's something a little unpleasant looking from having the infobox and the contents' index on the left side. Too much whitespace is lost on the right. Maybe it would be a good idea to move the infobox to the right, if we're going to start having articles with more sections and thus with a table of contents? Btw, the right side is the usual place for infoboxes in most other wikis I participate in, including Wikipedia.--Sega381 02:31, 2 May 2011 (GMT)
Sega381https://keenwiki.shikadi.net/w/index.php?title=Arachnut&diff=18611Arachnut2011-05-02T02:27:24Z
Sega381: /* Physiology and Behaviour */ typo

The Arachnut is a green creature that crab-walks on six brown legs. It has on the face of its abdomen six red, pupilless eyes which swivel around erratically, and on the top of its abdomen two "heads", connected by stems, that each contain a wildly biting mouth.

The Arachnut can be stunned for a few seconds with a shot from the Neural Stunner. Despite this fact, it will soon revive itself, and cannot be stunned permanently.
These creatures kill Commander Keen with one contact, presumably by biting him. As they cannot be permanently stunned, they pose a very dangerous threat.

Krodacia is a faraway planet that was the setting for the Keen 4 mod, The Keys of Krodacia. It is mainly colored purple, with various bodies of water... and slime. The rest of the planet is not shown in the game.

Inhabitants
The main inhabitants of the planet are called Krodacians. Several species comprise the Krodacian Race. For more information on the various species of Krodacians, click here.

Buildings and Architecture
Several Structures exist on the planet, including various Temples, fortifications, and residences. Also included are various forests and lakes, which (as far as we know) extst naturally as part of the topography of the planet. For more information on all of these, which exist as levels in The Keys of Krodacia, click here

Flora and Fauna
As said above, various creatures inhabit the planet. As far as we know, the only plants on the planet are seaweed which exists underwater, and trees, which are somehow blue. Lighter colored plants of some type exist in the upper-left-hand corner of the map, however these have faces on them, as seen in the backgrounds of the levels that take place in the area... These may be a reference to the living trees in Keen 4.

Other Significance
The planet was used as a diversion against Keen by Mortimer McMire. It was said to be the location of the "Universal Toaster Cannon", which, as far as we know, never actually existed. It was supposed to have existed in a giant structure locked by seven keys that were hidden all across the planet, however this structure cannot be seen from the map.
The Bloogton Tower is the seventh level of Keen 6. It is also one of the tallest, a result of its skyscraper construction.

Because of its position directly behind Bloogton Manufacturing, it is likely that the Bloogton tower is a corporate headquarters of sorts. The top room, however, which ordinarily would be where the executive offices are, is filled with a large acid pool. It also contains the Bloogstar Rocket Passcard, possibly providing chief executives access to offices on the space stations. The lower half of the level centers around an elevator shaft which is marked with green up/down arrows. There are numerous switches throughout the level, most of which activate bridges but some of which start up moving platforms.

Character appearances: Bloog, Blooglet, Blooguard, Bobba, Ceilick, Fleex, Gik.
The Neural Stunner is a weapon found in Keen 4, Keen 5 and Keen 6. Its shots are able to stun many enemies, although some require more than one shot. There are also enemies that can't be stunned at all. The stunner itself is green as are the shots it fires.

It is believed to be invented by Keen (though this is not stated explicitly). However, there is some doubt over whether Keen invented this weapon, as stunners are found scattered across many planets and in many places, suggesting that they may in fact be a standard weapon used by many races as a form of defense.

Mysteriously, the stunner is only ever used by Keen, though similar weapons are found throughout various episodes (such as a pink version in Keen 6). On the other hand, many of the creatures Keen encounters are too dimwitted to fire guns, so it is possible that these guns are used by someone else, such as Mortimer McMire. It has even been suggested that they were placed to aid Keen so that he would actually stand a chance against Mortimer's forces.

The Neural Stunner is the weakest weapon Keen has used next to Flower Powers, being unable to kill almost any creature attacked, rather causing long term stunning. A number of creatures are only stunned short-term, and some are not stunned at all. Keen's continued use of this weapon must thus be attributed to his humanitarian nature. (Though he does make exceptions, squishing any alien he can, such as Skypests and Bips.) Some creatures are destroyed by the stunner, and several mechanical devices can also be broken, suggesting that the neural stunner acts as an energy weapon rather than a mental one.
They are apparently prisoners of the Grand Intellect on the Vorticon Mothership in Keen 2. It could be that they are sent aboard the Mothership in order to help with their knowledge in the most difficult missions.

They are held within 'stasis fields' so they cannot escape, though they can talk to anyone who steps on the field's communication pad. To prevent unwanted communication, the pad will only activate once for any particular person.

The Elders tell Keen that Vorticon will not jump in the dark, and also beg him not to kill them as they are mentally enslaved by the Grand Intellect. It is not known what happens to them when Keen cripples the mothership, but they are never seen again...
They are dangerous, electric creatures that move in preset routes through air, often with great speed. Volte-faces have large pair of eyes. They can be stunned only temporarily. It is not known if they are in any way related to the Sparks found in Jazz Jackrabbit 1 and 2 in the Tubelectric and Air Base levels, though the similarity is striking.
Thunderclouds are an interesting example of camouflage and innovative adaption. They spend most of their time high in the sky hidden amongst real clouds, disguising themselves and looking exactly like a normal cloud unless threatened.

When threatened a Thundercloud will open its eyes, get a fix on its attacker and aim a bolt of high power static electricity at them. Thunderclouds are impossible to dispose of, being immune to neural blasts. Touching the cloud itself doesn't harm Keen.
The Tank Robots are robots found on Mars. They live up to their name, running around on track tracks and being heavily armored. They are indestructible and will fire shots at Keen whenever he is near. They were probably manufactured by the Gargs and thus show both their technical prowess and attitude, being both incredibly violent, and very simple, most of their behavior being random. They are commonly used to guard important places.

Their main weapon is an infrared laser of somewhat lower energy then the Raygun Keen finds on Mars; the shots can be stopped when Keen shoots at them, and they are gentle enough to melt the ice if Keen is frozen. However, a direct hit with nothing to absorb the heat will be lethal. As well as shooting Keen, they can also push him around, like Butler Robots.
A Sprite is a small white dog-like creature found in the underwater level of Keen 4. It shoots horizontally shortly after you have passed by it (assuming you pass by it quickly enough.)

The official description states:

However it is possible to persuade a Dopefish to venture too close to a Sprite - unfortunately, nothing surprising happens, the Sprite's fireball simply passes behind the Dopefish. Perhaps this simply means the Dopefish know better than to try eating a Sprite. Or maybe the Dopefish are immune to the charges. Or maybe the Sprites are poor shots.
Their modus operandi is to raise themselves a short distance into the air, rotate around their eye, randomly pick a direction, then fly in that direction. This leads to them whizzing around near Keen posing a threat. They are indestructible, but will pause to grip anything they come into contact with (usually a wall) which will give Keen time to escape.

Since they only move horizontally or vertically, when encountering a spinning Spirogrip it can be avoided by standing at a 45 degree angle to it, since it will then never travel towards Keen. Spirogrip can be trapped by luring them through a gap between two platforms into a room. While they can get out of any place they can get in to, probability can make sure that they are kept out of your way.

The name 'Spirogrip' may come from the root words 'spiro' (to spiral, move around, rotate) and 'grip' (to grab something) - an appropriate title for something that is just a rotating hand. It is not known where Spirogrip come from, or how they live. Their lack of a mouth point to them being an engineered species produced by the Shikadi.

There is only one place where Spirogrips can be found aboard the Omegamatic, the Gravitational Damping Hub.

Spindreds are enemies found in Keen 5, aboard the Omegamatic.

They are diamond-like beings that bounce on both the floors and the ceilings. They hit a surface three times and then move to the opposite surface, hit it three times, and then come back and do the same again. The Neural Stunner is useless against them, as they can't be destroyed.

Depending on the situation there are three possible ways to get past a Spindred; the first, if they are on the floor they can be jumped over. If this is not possible or they are on the ceiling, they can be ducked under. If neither of these are possible, it may be possible to trap a Spindred by flicking a nearby switch.

The official help says:

Spindred seem to be simply ineffective security devices, maybe manufactured by the Shikadi or brought onboard the Omegamatic from their planet. Their name may come from their constant spinning and the fact they are red (and they could be dreaded).
Sphereful are large spherical enemies that are found in Keen 5.

Sphereful were probably built by the Shikadi to help guard the Omegamatic. They are indestructible and unstunnable. The main body seems to be made of a glass-like substance resistant to damage, filled with some sort of plasma-energy discharge sparking between the diamond sensor points and the interior. They are thus impressive, but surprisingly simple, doing damage by cutting anything they contact with their spikes.

They move very slowly, floating around and using the four diamond sensors on their surface to detect targets. When they find one, they move slowly but surely towards them, killing them on touch.

They are weaker and can be destroyed, and are also not sphereical, being instead only roughly rounded, and mostly metal They are no longer diamond tipped, instead being equipped with two rotating 'razor sensors'. They will whizz about after Keen but are much less dangerous.

They are exceedingly dangerous Shikadi. They can teleport themselves to any place they wish, and also shoot deadly blasts of energy (called "electrospheres") along the ground. It should be noted that the electrospheres can be stopped by shooting them. Shikadi Masters only appear guarding the Quantum Explosion Dynamo. They can only be found on normal and hard difficulties.
They behave almost identically, though they are smaller than their normal Shikadi counterparts. Keen meets them on their possible home world Shikadi World.
Schoolfish are harmless small green fish only seen in the Keen 4 underwater level Well of Wishes in Three-Tooth Lake.

Schoolfish are so named as they like to travel about in large schools, making them easy to catch. They are preyed on by almost everything from Sprites to Dopefish and thus seek protection in numbers. Incurably curious, they will follow any strange fish around so long as they are not attacked, something human divers have found annoying, though useful in a tight spot.

Schoolfish will follow Keen as closely as possible. Dopefish like to eat them, and they can be used to trick the Dopefish by letting them eat the schoolfish while Keen swims to safer waters.
Robo Red is an enemy in Keen 5. One of the most frightening foes aboard the Omegamatic, Robo Red is a robotic guardian that cannot be defeated by Commander Keen. These machines float just above the ground using some sort of green hoverpad on their underside, and when a Robo Red detects Keen's presence, it will rapidly shoot a large number of red laser blasts.

The official help text states:

He can usually be avoided if Keen lets himself fall through a hole, or quickly climbs a pole; the blasts emitted (22!) fan out both up and down for about four tiles, making it very difficult to avoid the blast. Robo Red will pause for a short time before shooting, about 1.5 seconds, giving you valuable time to escape. Despite the prominent eyes Robo Red are almost blind and you can follow behind them with little trouble, they will however respond to you hitting the ground less than six tiles either side of them, and will turn and shoot if you shoot them. They are indestructible.

You can actually stand next to Robo Red and not get shot (you can sometimes duck under the laser blasts too), but then you're standing next to him and that can't be good.

She gives Keen some guidance on his quest. She can be seen in two Keen 4 levels, the Chasm of Chills and Hillville.

She wears a golden crown with diamonds on it, and a cyan dress. She looks older than Keen, but her age is unknown nonetheless. She might be immortal like the Council Members, suggested by the fact that she can't be shot.

She has the ability to float in air and to teleport. The abilities may be because of some sort of magic. She will leave immediately after giving Keen advice. Allegations that she is the tooth fairy remain ungrounded.
Princess Lindsey is named after Lindsey Velez, a fan who wrote id Software.
The Pat Pat is one of only two tile based creatures to be given a name, the other being the Stranded Fish in Keen 3. It frequently appears in Keen 1, usually in little groups. One cannot be certain if it is a plant similar to a Venus Fly Trap or an animal similar to a mussel. Technically it is not a creature but a tile-based hazard which cannot move from the spot where it sits, and this argues for the identification as a plant. However, it should not be forgotten that the biology of Mars is very different from that of the Earth, so it may be neither of the two.

It is not known where the name 'Pat Pat' originated from, possibly due to the creature's opening and closing its mouth.

The creature appears to have more animal characteristics than plant: it is not green, moves rapidly, even without prey and has a tongue. This is not a positive diagnosis however. Pat Pats do not like the cold, and are almost absent near the Mars polar caps. They also dislike darkness.
Orbatrix are smallish blue spherical aliens found in Keen 6. They spend most of their time floating about in the air or bouncing around. They have two 'wings' on either side of their body, which is little more than a single red eye.

Orbatrix are usually harmless, simply floating around slowly in the air. Some people swear that they follow Keen around, but this is unproven. However, when Keen is close enough, Orbatrix will curl themselves up into a ball by placing both 'wings' over their eye, spinning and dropping to the ground, rebounding off of every surface they contact. At this speed they are dangerous and can kill Keen. Though immortal, shooting an Orbatrix will temporarily stop it from curling up into a ball, thus buying the player a few seconds of safety.

The name 'Orbatrix' is coined from the word 'orb' and the suffix 'trix' (used in the Latin languages) in reference to their circular shape. It is not known how they levitate. Orbatrix are exceedingly simple, being little more than a giant floating eye, brainless (explaining their immmunity to neural shots) and without any apparent mouth or limbs. The two fleshy 'wings' are used to protect the delicate eye during bounding sessions (the eye itself doesn't seem to ever blink.) It is not known how they feed or reproduce, and it is possible they are modified creatures, found only inside buildings as some sort of defence measure.

Orbatrix can be persuaded to unfurl next to a wall, and if they do so they will become stuck inside the wall and no longer a threat to the player. The cause of this is probably a bug in their collision rectangle; all but one Orbatrix (in BASA) can be made to do this.
The Mad Mushroom is an interesting fungoid organism found on the planet Gnosticus IV.

As a fungoid, it lacks any effective form of locomotion (and probably internal structures and brain). Therefore they are rather simple, spending all their time bouncing on the spot. They are however exceedingly toxic, and coming into contact with one is lethal. Their toxicity is their means of catching prey, upon which they feed.

They are immune to neural disrupter based weaponry, probably because they have no brain. The best strategy is to run under them as they jump; they will regularly perform an especially high jump after two small ones.
Their dangerous abilities are to make up for their lack of intelligence; they simply float back and forth, turning when they reach a wall, and firing at random intervals.

The Grabbiter is a unique, large creature which is seen on Fribbulus Xax.

Almost Grabbiter's whole body is purple and pink. He bears resemblance to a giant purple fish with arms and red claws. Strangely, he is also akin to a purple heart which has been almost teared apart in the middle. His mouth divides his body in two halves.

Whether or not he is a plant, which is suggested by his static nature and his resemblance to a Venus Flytrap, is unknown. However, it is almost sure that he possesses a brain. He uses his mouth not only to consume food, but also to interact with Keen through verbal communication - he is able to speak English.

Grabbiter is seen on the world map only, making him one of the few non-combat creatures. Furthermore, he is a vital game play element which forces the player to visit a certain stage of the game before they can advance on the map. In order for him to fall asleep, and thus to get past him, Keen has to provide him with the unique Stupendous Sandwich of Chungella IV which can only be found in Bloogfoods, Inc.. Grabbiter says that he will reveal a "secret" to anyone that brings him a snack. The latter is the fact that he will fall asleep after being fed.
The name Grabbiter is a portmanteau of "to grab" (hints at his claws) and "to bite" (-> biter, hints at his ridiculously large mouth).
They will follow prey around until it is not watching then jump, flip over and slide past their victim, slashing them with their spines as they go.

Giks can be helpful in that they can carry Keen across acid pools and the like (they will not turn over while Keen is actually standing on them), but most of the time they are a great nuisance.

The Council Members are a specially selected group of eight Gnosticenes whose job it is to look after, protect and at times activate the Oracle. Together they form the High Council of Gnosticus IV, and are sometimes refered to as "Keepers of the Oracle". They are helped by a janitor (that looks just like them) and they are served by Council Pages.

They are rather humanoid in form, being almost indistinguishable from actual humans, though they are slightly shorter in stature. The High Council is known to be immortal, but it's not known whether other Gnosticenes are. Neither is it known how and why they ended up being immortal.

According to Keen 4 Story, the Council Members owe Keen a favor (though the reason is not mentioned), and that's why they are going to help him with the Oracle. That may mean that the High Council only allows some people to access the Oracle. It also implies that Keen has had previous dealings with the Council Members.

The Gannalech, who was fearful of the Oracle's ability to foretell both his location and plans, sent the Shikadi to capture the Council Members. As they could not kill them, they scattered them to the four corners of the Shadowlands with the intention that they would then be unable to activate the Oracle. They were trapped in several difficult to reach places (indeed one was banished underwater), and hideous creatures were left to guard them. The Shikadi do not appear to have thought of destroying the Oracle to stop it from being used, though it simply may be indestructible.

The official help says about them:

Keen's job in Keen 4 is to rescue them so he can discover what the Shikadi are up to. The eight Council Members are trapped in the following locations. In all the levels, except for the Isle of Fire, the Council Members are trapped somewhere behind a stone gateway with a green gem on its top.

* The Perilous Pit
* The Cave of the Descendents
* Crystalus
* Lifewater Oasis
* The Pyramid of Shadows
* The Isle of Fire
* The Well of Wishes

The High Council janitor is trapped in the Pyramid of the Forbidden, though it is not necessary to free him to finish Keen 4.

The Dopefish (Pisces swimeatus) is an enemy from Keen 4. It is a big, hungry fish that eats Keen if it gets near him. The first appearance of the Dopefish in Commander Keen is in the Well of Wishes, the underwater level in Keen 4. It also appears in Keen GBC.

The official help text says of the Dopefish:

This is a reference to Douglas Adams' Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy which describes the dumbest creature in the universe as the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. Obviously, the 'Dope' part of the name is a reference to its low intelligence, and has nothing do do with drugs.

Probably the most well-known creature in all of the Commander Keen universe, the Dopefish has spawned a cult following and made numerous appearances in many other games. For a full list of guest appearances, visit the Dopefish's homepage .

As it is not possible to fire the Neural Stunner in the Well of Wishes, the Dopefish can't be stunned by Keen, and his only option is to escape from it. The in-game helptext in Keen 4 states that the Dopefish won't mess with a Sprite; however it is possible to lure a Dopefish into contact with a Sprite. Unfortunately, nothing happens: the Sprite will fire at Keen, but its shots are harmless to the Dopefish.

Appearance in Keen GBC
The Dopefish appears in Keen GBC as decoration on some tiles and as a real enemy. The tile art was directly taken over from the Keen 4 sprite. The new enemy version looks a lot like the first one and can be found in Blooglet Lake on Fribbulus Xax. In contrast to Keen 4, this Dopefish is much smaller and more fragile, being easily defeatable when they are out of water. This may indicate that the Dopefish in Keen GBC are younger versions of the Dopefish in Keen 4. They spend their time jumping in and out of the water, hoping to snap up Keen.

Butler Robots are small, short 'tin can' robots found on Mars. They were probably built by the Yorps and thus show the height of Yorp science. As such they spend all their time wandering back and forth, looking for things to push. Such as you. Off a cliff. To your death. These robots were built for menial duties, and as the name implies, they probably perform cleaning and cooking duties.

The Yorps provided each bot with a tiny black hat that bounces up and down as it moves. They probably did this to make their servants look cuter. This should tell you quite an awful lot about the Yorp mindset.

These robots are indestructible. Well, at least with the Raygun Keen has on Mars.

Bobba are large worm-like creatures found on Fribbulus Xax, though there are rumours the the Bloogs have recently captured some to act as guards in their orbiting fortress. Being exceedingly muscular, Bobba hold their worm-like body upright even hopping along on the lower portion of it, which acts as a foot. They are indestructable and shoot huge, fast moving fireballs. Their eyes, though well adapted for low light, cannot see well during the day (they have no pupils) and thus they can only take short hops, often 'walking' back and forth across a piece of land unable to see a way around or over any obstacles they encounter.

They only appear in Keen 6, Hard difficulty level, and only in a few specific levels (such as the Bloogbase Management District and the Bean-with-Bacon Megarocket), never more than one Bobba per level. Their rarity in comparison to babobbas implies that few bobbas survive to adulthood, although it is not known what threatens them in their youth.

Appearance in Keen GBC
Bobba appear again in Keen GBC where they are much smaller and weaker, being stunnable and killable. They are slightly more intelligent and can jump higher, but apart from this, are identical.
The Blue Birds (unofficial name) are a race of eagle-like creatures found on Gnosticus IV.

Blue Birds are not social, living alone in cold and harsh places. The only locations they can be seen in the Shadowlands are the Chasm of Chills and Crystalus. They will attack almost anything smaller than they and are known to be incredibly difficult to injure, most weapons only being able to slow them down for a short period. They can be stunned only momentarily.

Blue Birds are notable for laying eggs almost as large as an adult bird, which eventually hatch as fully grown adults. They leave their eggs abandoned in dark or enclosed places for the hatched chicks to feed off of the many creatures that dwell there, such as Wormouths and Poison Slugs
Blorbs are large floating pseudosingle-celled amoeboid organisms found on or above the surface of Fribbulus Xax.

They are believed to be relatives of the giant purple space amoeba, though somewhat smaller in size. Lacking any sensory organs, internal structures or higher functions, Blorbs spend their time aimlessly floating around space hoping to collide with something edible. They are almost indestructible and can survive the harsh conditions of space, as well as re-entry into a planet's atmosphere.

The name 'Blorb' is most likely a portmanteau of Blob and Orb.
The Berkeloids are a race of fire creatures found only on the Isle of Fire in Three-Tooth Lake on Gnosticus IV. They have blank white eyes and they're legless, floating about half a foot off of the ground and throwing huge fireballs at all who annoy them. They cannot be stunned.

These creatures are named after Ryan Berke, a fan who wrote id Software.

The Keen 4 help text states:
The Arachnut is an invincible and hostile creature with two mouths full of sharp teeth, and many eyes in their center.

Arachnuts are inhabitants of the Shadowlands, and they prefer the hot, arid climate of the pyramids and places like Sand Yego, ideally underground and close to water, as would be expected from a desert dwelling creature. One shot can stun an Arachnut temporarily, but there's no way to stop it permanently.

The official help says of the Arachnut:

The name 'Arachnut' appears to be a portmanteau of the words 'arachnid' (spider-like) and 'nut', in reference to its spider-like legs (although this is more accurately described as crab-like since it walks sideways) and to its apparently erratic or insane behavior (its eyes look in random directions, and it scurries quickly and randomly.)
