Keen 5 Composite CGA Edition is a skin mod by VileR, made for CGA version 1.4 (the Apogee Software version) of Keen 5. The graphics are completely reworked to take advantage of how CGA looks with composite output. In other words, the colors are replaced by black and white patterns that, when seen in a composite monitor, each display as one out of 16 colors. In addition, a couple visual effects that only the EGA versions had were patched back in, including fade-in-and-out transitions and the Game Over sequence's changing colors.
To run this mod with the intended display on DOSBox, one should use a fork that supports emulation of CGA composite output. DOSBox-X, for instance, has two options for this type of output, called cga_composite and cga_composite2. These are accessed in Main
→ Configuration tool
→ Main
→ machine
.
