Talk:Talkeen

Should this be allowed?

It's not really much of a game. Like, it may be interactive, but there isn't a goal to strive for. There's no way to either win or lose. Said interactivity isn't much, anyway; you just talk to Keen, whose AI seems to be written in less than a week. In DOS Classics, Talkeen isn't even listed with the fangames, but instead Utilities and Applications (even though it's not used for modding). I don't know what's considered the bare minimum for fangames on KeenWiki. Should we let Talkeen be since it's so old and provides something you wouldn't see elsewhere on KeenWiki? Any thoughts? What comes first to mind is, that text-based games are some of the earliest games in video game history, such as the text adventure dnd or Zork. I have the impression that Talkeen is somewhat reminiscent of this early video game era.
I know, this doesn't really answer your question, but perhaps gives a bit of context...

That's actually a good point! Many computer games back then involved the player typing and reading text. Also, to further elaborate on what I mean by "something you wouldn't see elsewhere on KeenWiki," I mean that there's no other Keen chatbot available. Talkeen can be kind of silly, with some of the responses making me giggle a bit. It may be dumb, but I think it has more intrigue and appeal than some of the other low-effort and basic levelpacks/fangames that are documented here. I guess we can consider this case closed and let the page be. Quinton (talk) 04:01, 24 March 2024 (GMT)

Genre?

Anyone have an idea on what genre this game should be classified as? I'm thinking of "Text", but that might be too broad. The Dopefish Rescue games, for instance, would fit in that genre too, although I've considered filling the Genre field for their would-be-pages with "Adventure" or even "Text adventure". Another idea I had is "Chat" or "Chatting", but I think Talkeen would be the only game here that would fit in that genre. Quinton (talk) 04:01, 24 March 2024 (GMT)

Maybe interactive fiction or text-based game should fit both games genre, right?
