Walking
They walk on legs,that should be changed.--Xterra1 21:34, 9 July 2007 (GMT)
- Please provide evidence (ideally from within the Keen games themselves) that backs this up - if you can do that there will be no problem making the change! -- Malvineous 07:31, 10 July 2007 (GMT)
- Well, the ingame animation looks like it walks on legs-Doesn't it look like that,Malv?--Xterra1 20:35, 19 July 2007 (GMT)
- Also,on ALL other sites it never mentions the knuckles.--Xterra1 20:36, 19 July 2007 (GMT)
- This article is too short-I'd wanna re-add the stub code.--Xterra1 05:14, 20 July 2007 (GMT)
- Looking at the in-game animation again, I still think they're walking on their knuckles - at the very least the infobox image in the article looks like it's dragging its knuckles behind itself. As to the stub code, that's only meant for articles that don't have any meaningful information yet. A short article is still an article, which is way better than a stub. If you think the article is too short, what else would you add to it? I can't really think of anything missing from it... -- Malvineous 06:16, 24 July 2007 (GMT)
- In reference to how they're walking, there follow 2 animations - full speed and 1fps. Draw your own conclusions:
-- DHeadshot 20:15, 12 May 2010 (GMT)- Any chance of cleaning the images up a bit? Not sure why they look so bad with the dithering, Keen was only 16 colour but animated GIFs can be up to 256 colours. If you can get a nice looking 1fps image we should add it to the article page. -- Malvineous 06:26, 15 May 2010 (GMT)
- I feel I ought to admit at this juncture that there was no fancy recording software involved in the animation of this, I just kept pressing Ctrl+F5 on DosBox to screen-capture, then bunged them into Flash. Therefore, I can't be sure that the difference in time between each frame is as it was in the game... As for the dithering, I'll se what I can do, but no promises... -- DHeadshot 21:51, 15 May 2010 (GMT)
- Bet I can do: -- DHeadshot 22:03, 15 May 2010 (GMT)
- Flash! No wonder :-) The files are huge for the type of animation so it's not doing any optimisation either. What happens if you put the screenshots into one of the online tools for making animated GIFs? -- Malvineous 01:19, 16 May 2010 (GMT)
- Using the tools:
- GifNinja (note the dodgy colour): .
- Picasion (note the missing frames): -- DHeadshot 14:39, 16 May 2010 (GMT)
- Ok I finally got around to this. I used the ImageMagick library so I could convert DOSBox screenshots directly into a nicely cropped animated GIF in two commands, and it came out at only 16kB. I added it to the article. -- Malvineous 07:39, 6 June 2010 (GMT)

Creature name
Hmm. I've also heard on another Keen site that they were called,"Rotten Apples",but the site's name escapes me,it's been so long....Has anyone heard about that?--I think, therefore I am Xterra1 20:15, 18 June 2009 (GMT)
Seems "Apel" is Apple in Indonesian. I don't know if that's just coincidence, but I thought I ought to report it anyway... -- DHeadshot 19:11, 12 May 2010 (GMT)
- Further research, it's also "Call" in Croation and a kind of "Slab Hut" in Australia... -- DHeadshot 01:05, 13 May 2010 (GMT)
- Well it seems that in the earliest version of Keen Dreams (see bipship.com) the help contains a list of creatures, and the official spelling is in fact Apel. -- Malvineous 04:00, 13 June 2010 (GMT)
